Paint Kitchens Design Dilemma

We have just installed pre-fab kitchen cabinets that are a warm white color. Cabinets go all the way to the ceiling. The wall color in the kitchen is Revere Pewter. The ceilings and trim throughout our whole house are BM Simply White. We have this recessed ceiling in the kitchen. I’m worried that the warm white of the cabinets might clash with ceiling if we painted the whole kitchen ceiling Simply White. Would it look okay to paint the perimeter around the recessed ceiling area Revere Pewter and then the recessed area Simply White? Any other thoughts?

Just an observation: If you look through the houzz recessed ceiling photos, you see that the entire ceiling is usually painted the same color and that the cabinet color is not carried onto only the non-recessed portion of the ceiling.

I would not obsess on this. " A warm white" cabinet, and ALL the trim in the house is Simply White"

You already made the call, with the pre fab warm white.

The ceiling ( all of it ) and recessed lights do not need a highlight keep all simply white.

I will hope you've under cabinet lighting since you are lighting aisles, and not island or perimeter: ) counter

Mike, We have 8" high ceilings. I want lights that are for task lighting. I cook, and so does my son, but it's not every night, because he's busy w/homework, and I'm tired after a hard days' work. We'll eat on the other side of the island that used to be dining room, but will be a quasi-extension of the kitchen. In the family room, our ceiling are between 8-10 feet. We'll have lamps in their for ambient and mood lighting, but also want recessed lights, but unlike the kitchen, for ambient lighting. In both rooms, we'll be putting 5" baffled recessed lights, and I cannot see using any kind of floods.

I would go with the 2700k for most areas. except for a study/ work area that would be used late into the night. A higher color temp impairs the production of melatonin which could result in difficulty sleeping. Use the flat ceiling can & trim if the angle is <= 15 degrees. The CR6 and similar lights (RT6, ...) tend to have more light spillage than the BR or PAR bulbs used in recessed lighting i.e. - less of a spotlight effect. Some people may find it tricky to get the lamps fit. If the ceiling is high - 10' or more, indirect / cove lighting may be more elegant and practical.

David... This combination (chandelier and recessed lights over the island) is definitely different and I have not seen photos of this combination. I am wondering if a compromise would be to use only 3 chandeliers or pendants over the island only and move the recessed lights along the wall where the cabinets are located more toward the center of the aisle between the cabinets and island. Right now the recessed lights are 32" from the wall. The aisle distance between the cabinets and island will be approximately 48". Currently I am using a Cree Par30 short neck 3000K 40 degree beam spread bulb in the Juno can with clear alzak trim. The hope is that the light will spread toward the counter tops along the cabinets as well as the counter top on the island. Please provide your feedback. FYI.. Another option could be to add another row of recessed lights along the front of the island and have 3 chandeliers or pendants centered along the island. See photos attached of lighting options above island.... The last photos is what the final lighting plan could eventually look like depending on the placement of the recessed lights near the island. You have a lovely kitchen. I love love love your slab backsplash.

We have a trey ceiling on one side of our kitchen where the breakfast nook is..

I think we broke some rule as we painted the ceiling part super white to match the trim and the rest of the ceilings in our home. The vertical part we painted balboa mist the same color as our walls. Our tray is slightly different than yours. I think you could not go wrong doing either. Unless you paint it a dramatic color that might take away from your beautiful kitchen.

I have the chandy lifted as we are having a large party later tonight and I need the space.

Thanks for the reassurance. I will probably keep the whole ceiling Simply White then. We had a leak that damaged our cabinets and floors so this wasn’t a planned remodel. I had to make quick decisions.

And thanks about our slab. I fell in love with the Da Vinci quartzite. It’s a bit busy so I tried to keep the rest simple.
