One photo especially shows the light and dark contrast, which I wouldn't prefer: cause of the walk-through and a room with not ideal 'shape'. I would try a medium toned rug to lessen the stark contrast [of light rug].

It depends on what kind of backing it has. If you haven’t heard of the knuckle test, try this. Pull the rug back to expose the reverse, with a bit of pressure, rub your knuckle across the underside. If it feels as if it’s going to tear your skin then it needs a pad. Otherwise it should be safe. I always but wool rugs that are hand tufted. Every one I’ve bought has the same type of reverse (consist across different manufacturers). I do not use padding with them currently. However, a more important question would be do you remove your shoes at the door? As with regular carpeting, sand and debris can make its way through the weave and if left unchecked I would be surprised if it didn’t cause scratches. I pull mine back and sweep underneath regularly. You’d be surprised how quickly stuff ends up there. Anyway, please see my pics attached.

@KW PNW Z8 there is a lot of missing info on my part here. The gray wall that shuts in my kitchen is coming down in the near future and I’ll be building an island that comes out in line with the counter edge you see on that w all. The light will be replaced with a new one so iI won’t need to swag it and yes, those wheels come off the table legs. Those are just for moving heavy furniture. I just got done painting my floors so there was a lot of shifting of furniture happening. The table needs to be in that position to accommodate for the new island I’m building. And the high chair goes bye bye very soon as well.

If the furnishings are yours, then consider buying a rug in a style which works with everything...something you can take with you. I can't get a good look at the sideboard and the dining table/chairs, but I'm guessing Rococo style. A velvet sofa is the perfect choice for your scheme.
