Vote:If room not carpeted, should Dining Table be on an area rug?
Comments (16)Looks like majority has rug under formal if room is large enough and no rug under kitchen table due to messy eaters. Funny, my old house had wood dining table on wood floor. I had to put felt under all the legs, then moved a few weeks later and had to remove the all because new house had carpet. Now I am removing the carpet and having to put the felt back on. But since I will most likely have a rug under there, I may only do the chairs in case the chairs get taken off rug for some reason. My room is large enough to have rug under table with about 2' of wood around edge of room still showing. My kitchen has no rug on wood floor. It is amazing how many crumbs my kids drop each week. I almost feel like putting a "splat" mat under there like they do for highchairs....See MoreCan you put an area rug under an off centered table?
Comments (2)Is the wall portion on the right side of the opening deeper than the left( the one your hutch is currently on). Looking at your pic it looks like it could be...? If that is the case I’d move the hutch ( or sideboard) to the opposite wall. If you keep the hutch, I’d find Another place for the sideboard as both seem to be too much furniture in the room....See MoreRug or no rug underneath dining room table?
Comments (5)when I first saw the pictures I thought you need to bring the sectional closer to the fireplace and TV.... then saw it was a step down from the dining area. kind of dangerous to do that. maybe you could find a taller bookcase or 2 to place on the lower level and serve as a sofa table, bar and buffet when needed blocking off the step down and getting more storage and flat surface. I think in this case you do need a rug to get some color in the room. make sure it is large enough so that when you pull the chairs away from it that they are still on the rug. pull your favorite colors from the painting to bring somehow into each area (kitchen, dining and living room). looks like you already have some red in the kitchen picture. it should be repeated throughout the whole area that is visible in an open concept area. the pictures are just to give you an idea how just small things in each room repeating a color help make it interesting, unified and keeps your eyes moving in the room. you have so many choices to pick from. what is your favorite? I think changing the rug in the living room would also help. 2 rugs don't need to be the same but should complement eachother....See Moreneed help finding an area rug to go under the dining room table.
Comments (16)Put your centerpiece on the chess table. Is the other ornate dining set for breakfast, gaming or could it be used here? Do you want to continue with the cow head/skin theme, leaning SW in your decor? They aren't really "cozy and elegant," IMO. Is a new chandy in the picture? That one misses the mark on elegance. You need a minimum of 36-42" from the table top to any baseboards or furniture surrounding the table to allow for chair sit/scoot space. I'd do that measurement first. I really wouldn't want the rug jammed up against the exterior wall. Maybe the smaller, round table would be a better choice for using a rug here....See MoreRelated Professionals
