I meant option 1 the furniture will all fit on the rug and option 2 all front legs will fit on the rug

From your diagrams it doesn't look as if both rugs are 14 feet long.

Not sure the sectional or the arrangement is the best for the space. Post the floor plan with the feet and inches of the room, the walls, the kitchen etc.

What's the flooring under the area rug? Is it worth showing off? Bigger seems best when talking about an area rug.

Why a sectional as the seating at all? I really dislike sectionals in almost all cases but now IMO #2 unless the flooring is really ugly.

I’m reposting with extra measurements for walls and overall space. The kitchen is a bit wider than living room because I included the side wall cabinet depth However the living room is directly in front of the kitchen and fireplace is centered on hood and sink in kitchen. Thank you for the input!

We chose a sectional because this is our only room for lounging and TV. We have coffee, visit, read, hang out and cuddle and watch TV so we chose a sectional for function. Opppsing sofas barely fit with our desire of a deep sofa we looked at was 41” deep

However we can still cancel sectional Monday since we just ordered. I’m interested in everyone’s ideas.

You have views, but most of your seating faces away from it.

You have a lot more flexibility with 2 sofas and 2 chairs or 1 sofa and 4 chairs.

Looks like a beautiful space.

However, even before seeing all the measurements, the layout leaves your back to the beautiful windows/views when sitting on the longer part of the sectional. You could definitely lay out the furniture better.

The cuddle need is the most limiting, least versatile way to approach seating. Basically it's a hefty price to pay for a corner.

Not saying it as a hard and fast rule; now and then it is the best case for a room.. I don't think it is here........but no way to elaborate without wall, window passage and accurate feet and inches for everything.

In other words, do a bit of homework with a tape measure, a drawing. Is there a better way to find out? Nope : )

Hi everyone I did repost with measurements on walls windows and room overall. Backyard views from sectional facing fireplace and 2 swivels on left. Front yard view through front door (attaching a foyer picture) from sectional on side. Seems like the same view with a sofa and 4 chairs. We laid out using butcher paper and Opposing sofas blocked entry from foyer into living room. I’m reposting pics and hoping to get your thoughts on optimal layout and rug size and placement. If you insist on that layout and furniture, then go with the bigger rug.

Where is the TV going?

The layout is challenging because the room was designed with too many openings, making it function like a hallway rather than a dedicated space. You have two openings to the same guest room on either side of the fireplace, the opening to the foyer, the door to outside, and the room is totally open to the kitchen.

I would probably place the TV over the fireplace, and furnish the room with a sofa on the left side facing the window and swivel chairs facing the sofa. Alternately you could place the sofa facing the fireplace, and two swivel chairs on either side of the fireplace. Use an upholstered ottoman as a coffee table. Use the smaller of the two rugs you are considering, with the front legs of the seating on the rug.

If you really want a sectional, then turn it so that the longer part of the "L" is facing the windows, rather than the blank wall.

Also the sectional is equal on both sides 130x130. If we placed sectional facing windows is it ok that you walk into the sectional
from the foyer? Here’s the picture from the side backing up to windows. Also will have art on blank wall across from windows.

It would not be optimal to place the sofa with its back to the foyer entrance. However, depending on how much room you have you might be able to place the console table behind it so you'd be seeing it instead of the back of the sofa.

Truthfully? When a sectional and cuddling and a huge tv are extremely important? You think about that in the build. In the floor plan.

Take the dimensions of all the room space, leave 18 " from end of kitchen, from foyer wall, from window wall and just a few inches in front of hearth, and subtract. That's the IDEAL rug.

And it seems pretty clear I don't love the sectional idea in here. Kids will sit anywhere.: ) if that's any comfort.

Yes that’s the big dilemma the room seems big with the vaulted ceilings and wall to wall of 19 1/2 ft but the actual width of the “living space” is only 12’ if you leave a 3ft walkway to the guest bedrooms. Not about, right! Your plan gives me a lot of interesting ideas I hadn’t thought about before. The space is really longer than wider so your drawing plays off the length of the space. Thank you for your ideas

Ps no kids. We just enjoy the living space of hanging out after a long day!
