HELP!!! White/light or black countertops with white cabinets?
Comments (24)Beware of All Marble if they are tied into Marble.com. We have one of their sites here in my town, all I can say is eeewww, sceezy experience there. Eeeewww, can't tell you how bad it was to shop there, can't describe. Shop around, find a REAL granite place. Marble.com wanted almost 3 times what we paid and it was the yuckiest experience of my very long shopping career - won't give you actual names of granite unless you really push, have to fill out a form and sit through a VERY long sales pitch before they will take you into their granite 'showroom', can't just walk around, need a salesperson who shows you the samples that you pick out along their wall, and this of course, only after you have signed their sales agreement outlining payments which are out of line versus other places. They have lots of granite available, but all as a number and a colored price - you have to know your granite to price-shop there since most don't have their granties numbered instead of named. Yes, tehy can get granite in your house incredibly fast, but at a HUGE mark-up! Sceevy, sceevy, sceevy if it is the same company that has places in NJ, NY, and, CT.... We visited a location in CT - a true buyer beware situtation if it is.......See MoreHow well does do white laminate countertops hold up?
Comments (19)I had white laminate in my last house for the 16 years I lived there. I really liked - and like - formica laminate. I'm not especially careful about preventing stains - ketchup, wine - yet, not often did I have them. I kind of remember mustard. I am one that grabs bleach and bleaches spots out. I have heard since then (like someone has already said here) that bleach removes the coating/seal. Maybe that is true, but I guess I didn't use bleach enough that I saw a deterioration. My countertops were as nice the day I moved out as the day I moved in. I never ever used a knife to cut on the countertop surface --- I just always knew from growing up that you don't do that sort of thing. I would never think I could or should be able to use a knife on the countertop, so my countertops were never scratched. Also, I grew up always using hot pads for a hot pan on the countertop, so it never seemed like extra work to have to do that. It just seemed "normal". So, all in all, I loved my formica countertops, and I never felt like I was "settling" for less, or that I had to take extra care of them. They last for such a long time, and really hold up well. Comments (10)I get what you're saying! I like to layer texture, too, when going tone on tone. I was thinking a slightly unusual white tile shape for the backsplash to add texture. Our floor will be either bleached oak or grey stained oak (haven't settled on this yet, because we have boards that are nearly 100 years old and will be joined with brand new boards). Our kitchen island will be either very dark grey or battleship grey. My thought this morning was that we could do FC on the island for texture and then do PW on the white cabinets. The thing is that the white cabinets actually don't have that much countertop space (against the backwall where the cooktop will be) so, again, perhaps I'm overthinking this. We had Misty Carrera in our old kitchen with white cabinets and it bothered me that the counters were more grey than white....See MoreZeus White Extreme quartz countertop - can walls be off-white?
Comments (7)Cutting or increasing a colour by a percentage is open to a great deal of interpretation. So it’s kind of a clunky approach unless you have actually seen the results of a specific colour being manipulated from a specific store and liked it. Does it mean somewhat lighter - but the same degree of colourfulness? Does it mean both lighter + less colourful? Whichever it is - you end up with a new colour - which you may - or may not like. You can however, create an effective palette layering white & off-white tones together. The secret? Ensuring the two ’whites’ look deliberate, by having enough contrast so neither looks dingy or dirty next to the other. This can be done by managing their difference in Chroma. (degree of colourfulness) And if they aren’t too close together in Hue, nor too far apart either, this also adds to the degree of contrast. As Colour Guru Lori Saway explains ,if two white surfaces ’have a minimum difference in Chroma of at least 0.2 then neither will appear dingy or dirty alongside the other.’ #huefamilies #white #chroma...See MoreLynn Johnson-McBee
