Are you certain that what you have is laminate? Laminate flooring isn't glued or nailed during installation, but a floating system. If what you have now is, in fact, glued and nailed to your subfloor, then generally speaking, yes, you can float a new floor over it, it's not really recommended, but it's possible. Just keep in mind that your new floor is only as solid as whats under it. So if you have weak adhesion areas, or movement in the existing floor, or damaged areas, those are the areas where your new flooring will have the higher risk of becoming damaged. As a first step, I would make sure you know what you have, and exactly how it was installed. You cannot float a new floor over another floor that can move. So if theres only nails and maybe some glue here and there, I'd say no way. It won't last. Me too. No dog but looking at my current flooring (engineered) it looks like I throw knives at the floor. I do know that I have dropped a few, point side down naturally and there are dings in the flooring that look awful. I am thinking of going with the Estate Oak Cocoa. I like the random widths. This would be installed in my kitchen that will be undergoing a remodel in about March 2021. It will also go in the halls, living room, dining room and half bath.

There is always an option to 'harvest' flooring from one room so that the main room(s) can achieve the repair you are looking for. You then look at a different floor for the room that you needed to pull from. It isn't great but it is MUCH CHEAPER than redoing the ENTIRE space. I've seen this done many times. It takes a slow, steady hand to remove all the planks in a single room. The edges on the Aquaguard is fragile...but not impossible to work with. The good planks are used to repair the other room (and the rest set aside for another repair in the next 20 years). The empty room can have a complimentary floor (I would stay away from a wood look but it's up to you.
