The pottery liner of this double boiler is made in Chine. Is there some way to find out whether I should worry about it, e.g., lead, etc. presence in the clay or glaze? Here is a link that might be useful: All Clad 2 Qt. double boiler

I bought the PElla wood vinyl-clad. I've had these before for at least 6 years, and was satisfied with them. There are only a few cosmetic differences between Pellla's highest series (Architect?) and the next one down (which is also wood vinyl clad), but the cost difference can be substantial. I recently bought some new Pella wood vinyl-clad from Lowes. Lowes carries the next one down from the top, and is cheaper than a regular Pella store. also, if you can get a stock size, that will be cheaper still.

When the contractor said he could “extend the roofline”, he may have been suggesting a horizontal band of trim board at the same height as the nearby roof edge (what the other posters suggested). Then at least the J-channels don’t touch each other. It should not be a big extra IMHO, it isn’t a roof.

I just wanted to say that your new porch looks beautiful! I can not comment on the structural issues being raised. I went back and looked at the pics and plans. The plans do not appear to have the roof structure resting on the deck......or maybe I am looking at it wrong. Your biggest basis for it is "wrong" is if it is not done to the plans. If the build matches the plans and the inspector approves.......it is what it is. The inspector doesn't see everything. The roof resting on the deck and how the roof pillars attach to the bottom structure will be matters of fact, not opinion, as to whether they are to code and sufficient. You just need someone besides the builder to give an expert opinion if the builder is insisting they are "fine" and to code when you bring up those issues. The builder is only as good as the worst worker on their team on any given day. And contractors do sometimes miss details.......If he is good and reputable, he will make it right and to code. You can double check with the inspector, but that can be a can of worms. The fact that your builder pulled permits and is getting inspections is a good sign that he will make it right.
