Today I worked on my clothing closet with my good friend. I tried on all of my dresses, skirts, and jackets. I got rid of 17 items. It was really interesting to have someone objectively evaluate how clothing looks on you. It made me realize how harsh I am on myself! My friend is someone who is particular about how clothing fits, flattering styles, age appropriateness, etc., and it was a positive experience. I got rid of two vintage dresses because they didn't fit or flatter my shape well. I really liked these dresses, too , but I chose to keep others that look much better on me. Two contemporary dresses were nixed because they were a tad short. My friend said I could get away with them, but because I have others that look better I decided to keep just the best ones. The process has started to feel and sound familiar to other culling tasks I've completed -- my closet has a limited amount of space; I have lots of clothing but certain items are the most flattering; these clothes are in good condition; I enjoy wearing them and do wear them. I keep only the best of everything. I am glad to have gotten this far, but still have a lot to do. Slacks, tops, and shoes remain, but I already have more room in one closet. I need to start a list of particular items that would help round out my wardrobe, but I'm not going to buy anything until I have completed the entire culling process. Also started working on removing an applied texture from the walls of one of our bedrooms. Originally thought it was sand-textured paint, but it's a bit thicker than that. I'm using a spackling tool to lift and chip it off. It's a bigger project than anticipated, but I think the results will be better. Tina

My husband prefers a white with a pink undertone so that is fun (I have learned he does not see colour quite the same way I do anyway though he is not colour blind or anything). It is not at all uncommon to put the same colour on walls as trim, you can use a different finish even, but you might find that one will now look a lot creamier than you may prefer. If you are okay with that though then it is completely fine to do. I know of designers who paint an entire house in the same white with different finishes (flat v eggshell v gloss etc) and/or using different percentages (ie cut 50% for a north facing wall) and it can look amazing! I love white, but I think an issue when you combine too many different whites without a very careful plan you will really notice the differences in them *as* whites - like one will look very pink next to another, or dingy, etc. I think it is far easier to combine white with darker accent walls than other whites! And of course lighting, the direction of natural light source, size of walls, time of day, furnishings will all change how it looks. You need to paint some large poster boards with samples instead of use small samples on the wall. Look at them through day in spaces you intend to use it. Look at them one by one, not next to each other unless you plan to use them by each other. I believe Eider White is a truly neutral white, not warm, not cool, it was one I was looking at (we went with Heron Plume instead) but it truly matters what it is next to even then.

LOL. No we didn't use drywall compound to rehab the cabinets. We were doing drywall repairs and my test door got in the way. I'm using wood putty to repair the damage. We are not your average DIYers. My husband does facilities repair at a high end department store and i'm a former bath and kitchen designer. We built our own house doing all the electrical and everything else from the drywall out. We have done pretty extensive repairs on this house - replaced or painted all the doors. Repaired holes and cracks in the walls. Painted every inch of the interior. Replaced all the floors, lighting fixtures and faucets. It looks like a new house but for the kitchen. That's why I think a little lipstick in the kitchen is warranted. To leave it as is or tear it out would be a huge red flag and negate all the work we've done already. Is the NUVO worse than your typical sand-prime-paint-poly redo? I was just hoping that in a kit the pieces would all play nice with each other.

Your new house looks lovely!! Love the windows and the woods - what a great buy!! I've been reviewing similar paint colors like crazy for my new house as well and looking at very similar colors to yours. I have tested so many on my walls that I have lost count!!! It is a huge investment so you don't want to mess it up right? We are also painting everything the same color walls and ceiling. Our base boards are white so we will keep those. After about a month of other renovations, I have to make a decision now. And I think I'm almost there but testing one more color - putting it on the walls tonight. Anyways, here is what I learned in the hopes of helping you.... SW and Benjamin Moore are good paints but BM is a higher quality. So to get the most bang for your buck, you should go with BM. It has higher pigmentation for the paint color to last and the consistency of the paint goes on the walls much smoother. If you get testers between SW and BM, you will see the difference. Play with sheen's - I haven't done that yet, but so many people have told me to do so. With vaulted ceilings, if you are going to paint it the same color as the walls, it will make the room warmer. It is a personal preference on ceilings white - personally, I'm not sure if we are going to like it but it will save us $700 and I decided to go with a color that will work with a ceiling if we decided to change the wall color later. Painting ceilings are a pain! Okay.... to answer your question: SW Alabaster was way too stark white for my home. I started testing BM after that and I liked Navajo White but that would require ceilings to be painted white (I decided). I am trying BM White Dove tonight which is suppose to be a universal all around good color. I even read it in the Architectural Digest as a fave. I hope it works for my home (although I'll go back tomorrow several times to test it out with the light, etc.) I also really like BM Sugar Cookie - but a lot of folks on here told me it was way too yellow. I didn't see that, but after searching online, it doesn't seem like a good choice. If I was going to go with SW, my next color to try was creamy. Paint for the trim and doors can all be the same color as your walls but with a higher sheen. Or what I read is BM Chantilly Lace is really pretty. I didn't hire a consultant but with contractors in our house, I don't hesitate to ask their opinion. I had a gal over from the Closet Factory and she specialized in SW with her other clients. She was a huge help in seeing how undertones work!! I almost regret not paying for someone to help but I'm spending so much money on renovations and now organizing our stuff and buying new stuff for our new home that I just really didn't want to.
