Assuming that you mean real grasscloth, there are many different kinds. The texture can be fine (think along the lines of burlap) to very coarse. Texture and stiffness affect how hard it is to hang, so I would definitely want to see a large sample before buying it. It's a natural product so the dye absorption will vary a lot - even within the same roll. You need to check every roll end-to-end and determine an exact plan for how you will order the strips. Unlike with wallpaper, I've never been able to get a patch to be unobtrusive with grasscloth. That may mean buying extra grasscloth, depending on the shape of the room and the width of the material. I'd go to a local store that has extensive experience with wallcoverings and a reputation for really good customer service. If you aren't happy with the the dye absortion on one or more rolls, it's easier to address the problem in person. You don't say what your skill level is, but a good grasscloth installation requires a lot more skill than hanging prepasted paper or vinyl coated wallcovering. Sealing and sizing the wall first is never optional, but you really, really have to do it with grasscloth. I'm in the the camp that believes that you need to hang lining paper, too, in order to have a top notch installation. You will need to apply the heavy duty clear adhesive yourself. You can get away with using the kitchen counter or floor as a work surface for prepasted wallcovering. Not so for grasscloth. You'll need a stable wallpaper table and a really good straight-edge to dry trim the edges. Since it's a natural product the factory edges aren't always straight. The other choice is to hang overlaping the strips on the wall and trim through both for a perfectly matched seam.

Brutuses, that Collin table is great, isn't it? Its only new piece of furniture Ive ever bought! When we got married 8 years ago, we had between the two of us boxes of textbooks, one twin bed, and a dresser. Im too frugal to buy much new, so its taken awhile to actually furnish a house ;-) Were out of grad school days now, but since I got the table on clearance with a gift card, I guess we dont change our stripes too much. Great ideas mjlb. The more I looked at the room photos, the more I liked those little watercolors in there somewhere. The wall to the left of the entry door would be perfect. Would black frames and aqua mats like the sepia prints suit these too? I actually made a grasscloth picture mat for the sepia prints first, before I realized there was no contrast there and it needed more color. I could certainly do a grasscloth frame for the mirror. Would the same vertical placement to the right of the door work better then you think? Somehow on the post above I got two of the same picture; I guess my copy and paste didnt work the second time. Here is another angle of the accent wall. I've since moved the candlesticks over by the closet door. I do like the molding shelves on the grasscloth. Since I have three, how should I arrange them on the wall? Do I need something in that left corner by the table or leave it empty? And what do people recommend for a lamp base, assuming I do the fabric shown above for the shade?

But I don't think the house in general gives the impression of being at all dirty or in disrepair. To me, it looks like a well-maintained house with some ripped up sofa arms. If they were younger, maybe they got the sofa redone every few years. The small white sofa with the knobs and tassels is a Knole-style sofa which is uncommon in the US, and the last time I looked at Chairish, a George Smith knole sofa (in good condition) sold used for $8000. Maybe the family doesn't want to get rid of the furniture because it's all worth reupholsering...I also remember seeing a spread in a magazine some time ago where there was a comment about cat-clawed furniture despite the fact some of the fabrics were hundreds of dollars a yard. The homeowner called it patina. I am not disagreeing that this makes an odd impression--that's why I am posting it--but to me it is something that stands out as an anomaly, in a nice house. A typical staging quality sofa would also stand out as an anomaly in that house as well, and perhaps the $1.3 price tag on this does not warrant spending a lot on staging. I don't remember but it may be a reasonable price in the area.

Painting the trim without painting the windows will look fine. Contrasting trim color from the window color is done all the time. I would maybe make sure the white wall color you select coordinates with the vinyl window color. I know there are hundreds of "whites" to choose from so maybe that will help in your decision. (not white windows but contrasting to the window trim) Hope this helps!
