I have 3 PPf faucets and a tub filler from the 'Ashfield' line, the old fashioned looking trough faucet. I love the look, but there are a couple things to think about. First, they don't really pound the water out the way a 'regular' faucet does. It's more like water coming from a hose at about half pressure. I think they put out as many gallons/minute, but if you want a strong stream for... I dunno, washing your hair, maybe? Do people still do that at the sink?... it might not be the best choice. It's simple to get a glass of water [something I wondered about due to the width of the stream-- I think Kohler stopped making some models for this reason], and washing your hands or face is very pleasant. The stream of water arcing out is gentle, a very natural feel with no pounding or bubbles. And the trough itself [on Ashfields, anyway] holds on to a few drops of water which will evaporate, leaving whatever minerals you have behind. I recently used a wax on the troughs to see if that helps. Even with relatively soft water, I have some deposits. Also, when we have a power outage and get an air bubble in the pipes, the ashfields spit a bit right at you, as opposed to downards like a conventional faucet. But I'd do every one of them again in a heartbeat. Mine have only been in a few months, so I can't answer for longterm dependibility [some people on these forums report bad luck with PPf], but they are fun to use, appearance wise, there's no substitute, and the look is so unusual they get a lot of comments and compliments.

I'm not sure, gin gin, whether it can be installed without a plate; that page (I think it may have been a Delta similar to my Moen) didn't have a lot of info but I can investigate further. Ellaf, thanks for the encouragement. I found several simple, large faucets, like the Moen Annabelle and Brantford with sidespray that I like, but really do love my traditional, slightly more diminutive, faucet. Husband worries about putting many holes in granite and then being committed to a certain style faucet forever, so wants to be sure we make the right choice.

Give or take a 1\16th its a 1\4 inch. We got the faucet early and on sale - bought it based on internet pics. Wasn't until I unpacked it that I realized we might have a problem. We kept it in mind throughout the process (we had the light rail cut down and the filler between the cupboards and soffet was kept as small as possible). Another inch would have been great but it worked out fine. I'm a pragmatist we didn't make any major mistakes or ommissions, the space turned out to be pretty interesting and we were only slightly over budget so it's all good with me (my Mom loves the faucet so no complaints from her either).

Somehow I feel like creating a thread - Faucets and Sinks - that could go in the sort-of readme thread "New to kitchens?" I think there may be a pull-out vs pull-down link in there, but I think we'd all benefit from a thread that gave specifics on faucets and sinks and gave a bit of information. For instance: Faucet? Reach/height above countertop/height above sink bottom Sink - brand, material, dimensions, whether single/double and depth Grid yes/no Ease stream to spray and back again. Does it reload as "stream" every time it gets turned off? Or does it stay as "spray" if that's how you left it? (Peeve of mine. I ALWAYS want "spray." Rental faucet defaults to "stream." Not too easy to switch to spray from stream. How about the topic: "Just because it's pull-down spray doesn't mean it is gooseneck?" The faucet I'm considering is pull-down but NOT goose-neck.
