Caryscott and others - gooseneck faucet under upper cabinets?

Hey all - I am trying to find pictures of taller facets that are under cabinets - as opposed to in front of windows or walls with no upper cabinetry.

We are going to install a Kohler vinnata - the larger one, and in the current design we have about an inch to inch and a half between the top of the faucet and the bottom of the light rail. We are ordering the cabs next week, and I could go with a shorter upper cabinet or a shorter light rail, but I think it would look sort of weird.

Caryscott - it looked like in your pics of your mom's kitchen that you have a similar situation - a gooseneck under upper cabinets. Do you remember the clearance?

Pics would be SO helpful if any of you have a similar setup. Most of the faucet pics I can find are of the faucets and taken with an angle that doesn't really show the clearance to the upper cabinets! Thanks so much

If your looking down it looks like this:

Too close:

In fact there is about 2 1\4" between the top of the goose neck and the bottom of the cupboard:

Loads of space:

From a little lower angle and you can see the 1\4 inch:

If you have a couple of inches below the light rail (versus our 1\4") you should be fine.

Thanks for posting the pics! So.... you have about a 1/4" space between the top of the faucet and the bottom of the lightrail? If you had it to do again, would you allow for more space? I'm not precisely sure how much room we'll actually have - new floors, new everything. Thanks!

With solid 5\8 back the usable shelf depth in my Mom's uppers is 11 1\8". The company that manufactured her cabinets offers 13" deep cabinets on their custom line so (12 3\8" of usable shelf depth). I recommended my Mom stop using stoneware and switch to Corelle as it takes up less space, is much lighter weight for handling and the basic patterns are often sold in individual pieces if you break a piece. She got a service for 8 of "Square Pure White" (see image below) at a 2 for 1 sale on open stock. She mostly just uses the smaller luncheon plates (8 3\4) for herself. Her sister got burned on a new set of dishes that she couldn't fit into her cupboards so we checked (the dinner plates are 10 1\4 in the Square). She has always had coloured stoneware for everyday (her good dishes are plain white porcelain) and she is much happier with Corelle - boring but practical. Personally I like colour (I have great orange handled Guy Degrenne flatware set that I use for everyday with my boring white Corelle and I have some funky coloured melamine that I break out every now and then). For trays, I installed these: Not as squeamish as some about drilling into the new cabs, but I was careful: Got them at Lee Valley for $5.90 Canadian for a pair, they are made by Sunbeam. We initially bought the Knape and Vogt ones from HD for $13.97 each (needless to say back they went).

Somehow I feel like creating a thread - Faucets and Sinks - that could go in the sort-of readme thread "New to kitchens?" I think there may be a pull-out vs pull-down link in there, but I think we'd all benefit from a thread that gave specifics on faucets and sinks and gave a bit of information. For instance: Faucet? Reach/height above countertop/height above sink bottom Sink - brand, material, dimensions, whether single/double and depth Grid yes/no Ease stream to spray and back again. Does it reload as "stream" every time it gets turned off? Or does it stay as "spray" if that's how you left it? (Peeve of mine. I ALWAYS want "spray." Rental faucet defaults to "stream." Not too easy to switch to spray from stream. How about the topic: "Just because it's pull-down spray doesn't mean it is gooseneck?" The faucet I'm considering is pull-down but NOT goose-neck. I'm kind of in this dilemma and have been considering posting for ideas. I'm going to have uppers above the sink and although I'll have 18", I'm not sure if it will look strange to have a tall gooseneck there. Unlike you, though, I'm open to a pullout if it has the right look. I'm looking for both low profile pulldowns and tallish pullouts. I actually think it is possible that a pullout has an advantage as the reach might be less to get to the faucet. I'm also -considering- touch activation for that reason. I'm a little concerned about the reach to the back of the counter under those upper cabinets... My partner has also offered to modify the uppers so they are less deep over the sink if we end up feeling the uppers are really in our face. If I had any other layout, I'd bump the cabinet up over the sink or get rid of a cabinet there altogether. But, I have this backsplash window I am trying to learn to play nice with... Maybe this thread can become a place for us to post possibilities for both of us - and future folks in this dilemma. I'm not sure how a prep faucet would function as a main faucet. Linelle - aack, that was something I hadn't considered, that you might have to turn off the water before reverting to regular flow. That would bother me. I wonder how I can find out about whether the Allegro E Gourmet Prep works like that? Sometimes when you call customer service, they haven't a clue. Also, regarding the spray head size/shape, I have some arthritis and thought the bigger head would be easier to handle than the narrow "pro" spout of other faucets. Fori - thanks so much about the height testimonial. That is a relief that my options are a bit more than I thought. Maybe then I should go for the Allegro E Gourmet non-prep version? Its height is 14-3/4", while the Prep version height is 13-5/8". The reach of the non-Prep Allegro is also about an inch farther (10-3/8"). Anglophilia - I truly detest my current Rohl model's lack of a spray, and needing two handles instead of one. So, I am not keeping it for those reasons. Also, it is about 12 years old from what the Previous Owner said. That Rohl would cost $400 today which--while not cheap--isn't high enough to justify taking out upper cabinetry in order to keep it. Have you seen the Dornbrachts and the Waterstones? Now those are very expensive faucets. Nicole - I hadn't seen the Kohler Bellera. It is lovely. I will have to look at the specs.

Give or take a 1\16th its a 1\4 inch. We got the faucet early and on sale - bought it based on internet pics. Wasn't until I unpacked it that I realized we might have a problem. We kept it in mind throughout the process (we had the light rail cut down and the filler between the cupboards and soffet was kept as small as possible). Another inch would have been great but it worked out fine. I'm a pragmatist we didn't make any major mistakes or ommissions, the space turned out to be pretty interesting and we were only slightly over budget so it's all good with me (my Mom loves the faucet so no complaints from her either).

Here's mine. I don't know your layout but could you do some kind of an arch. If cabinet space is a priority I would not change it for a faucet. What about the smaller size faucet. I think it is for a prep sink but it may work for you.
