"Guests, Be Our Guest!": Reserve the larger room for guests, giving our son a snug space to call his own while still having a spot for work-from-home needs.
“Big Dreams for the Little One": Let our child rule the kingdom in the big bedroom while we carve out cozy corners for our home offices in the small spaces.

Tiny little bugs on a Jalapeno seedling
Comments (7)They could be Aphids, I had bought some seedlings from a nursery a couple years back when my Jals did nothing and a few days after sitting the new seedlings with my others I noticed something odd and on closer inspection the newly acquired plants were crawling with greenish brown bugs. The leaves literally looked like they were bubbling. I quickly grabbed those plants and moved them to my garage to get them away from the other healthy plants. The Aphids had made their way to some of the surrounding plants which I then dusted them with seven. They have a couple forms the ones crawling on the plants, and the mature ones who have wings and fly. I saw some of what I thought were gnats at first but realized they were aphids. Indoors they have no natural enemies except for us. They can be difficult to eliminate because they lay eggs. With them it's more a matter of control rather than elimination, easier done once outside. An interesting thing about them is ants will herd, protect, and milk them like cattle. The aphids suck nutrients from the plants and are harmful....See MoreDilemma: Should I Go Ahead With This Home Purchase?
Comments (33)UPDATE: Okay, we decided to go thru with the purchase. The more we thought about it, we realized that we had to take the emotion out of the deal and focus only on the house. Their agent is a real you-know-what (he actually put on the last counter inspection report "This is the sellers final offer. If the buyers want to break the contract the earnest money will be forfeited". Legally, I don't think he can do that. Nonetheless, we decided we really wanted the house because it met all of our requirements and wants in a house, so why dwell on something that can be fixed? And who knows? Maybe the guy who came out to inspect the furnace and a/c was just blowing smoke up my hiney (pun intended). So we took their final offer of $450 towards the furnace along with their $1500 toward closing costs. I've decided not to get a home warranty because, from what I've been reading, they're not worth the paper they're written on. Our local utility also has a rebate of $150 on a new furnace, so in the end, we'll come out okay on the furnace install. We're closing on May 16th, but not moving in until May 25th, so I'm going to have a couple more HVAC companies come out and give me an estimate on a new furnace and a/c and maybe one of them can do the install before we move in. I got an estimate from a Bryant dealer who said he could do the furnace only for $1600 - $1700. Seems reasonable. Thanks for all of your input! It's been very informative!...See Morewhere to buy small scale furniture for tiny home?
Comments (15)Hi- I would highly recommend getting this book at the library. It's Christopher Lowell's You can do it! Small Spaces. In fact, the sample rooms he shows are from mobile homes (Trailers) so he had very little space to work with. One point he made is you don't want pick such small furniture that you get a dollhouse effect, or that no one is comfortable. I've heard others mention this idea too. I think having furniture that's multi-functional, like using an ottoman as a coffee table/seating is very functional, or a coffee table with storage. Most of the houses in my neighborhood are the size of yours. Chris Lowell also rails against the loveseat for small spaces, because he claims unless people are really close (friendly/intimate) to one another, the loveseat is pretty much comfortable for one person and wastes a lot of space. He recommends club chairs instead. We also have some great used furniture stores around that carry used and older furniture- you might want to look into this. I usually look for stuff at these stores, since there's one especially where you can get great deals, so I haven't experienced the problem of too big of coffee tables. Some of these stores are more for antiques, so just look around to see if you can find one that's in your price range. Craigs list has good furniture listings too. I've found that Salvation Army and Goodwill often is expensive for furniture that's in bad shape compared to David's furniture (the store I like- they know how to refinish furniture and it's in a lot better shape)...See MoreLittle, teeny tiny ANTS !!
Comments (10)No, don't use boric acid. You want to use 20 Mule Team Borax (it's in the laundry aisle by the washing soda). Recipe depends if you have sweet eating ants or grease eating ants. If you have sweet eating ants, mix sugar with the borax (I think I use 1/2 cup sugar to 2 tablespoons of borax dissolved in 1 cup warm water). That's all Terro is, if you read the label. It should be pretty syrupy. If you have grease eating ants, mix the borax with peanut butter. Do keep it out of the reach of your pets - I've never found anything definitive saying borax is poisonous to pets, but my mutts adore peanut butter hence the bait isn't available to the ants! It doesn't kill them right away, but they will take it back to the nest. That's a good thing. You should see a steady population decline....See Morebeeboo22
