Big Exterior Update Dilemma on Dutch Colonial House 70's
Comments (5)Yes...very nice house! I would NOT paint the brick but maybe a German smear. Paint the rest of the house a soft white or something light. I would keep the house color light due to the amount of roof exposure. To me, a lighter color will give the house more focus and not let the roof take over. Lots of color options for the door and shutters. I would not add shutters to the double windows. They're too large for properly sized shutters. I don't have a photo, but my sister has a Dutch colonial. The siding is painted a soft white and the trim and front door are Benjamin Moore's Tarrytown Green. Though not a Dutch colonial, I do have a photo of my brother's brick colonial. Tarrytown Green was also used on it. Love it with the brick and white trim....See MoreNeed help updating this 70's home exterior.
Comments (20)We have since put new siding on the house. And trying to find a nice light colored paint color. I've decided against painting the stone. To me, it's just not as pretty as painted brick. I want a fresh updated look. Any ideas? Would love to change/update the exterior somehow, but can't think of any way we could add any architectural features. I will post pix with the siding (not painted yet, so the yellow is just the primer color)....See MoreUpdating exterior of late 70s house
Comments (5)You're just looking for a color recommendation? Well, common belief on this forum is that painted brick is not preferred. Does the roof stay? It's hard to tell what color it is presently. And the house is currently mauve? The (black?) shutters stay? I'm a traditionalist. I believe I would do plain old white to go along with the black shutters. You said it's a heavily treed lot so a very light color is probably best. (Unless you'd rather fade the house into its background. Some people do.) Though you didn't ask, I also think a wider, more defined sidewalk would add a lot, along with cutting back the shrubbery at the steps. And I'm envious of your full redbud and blooming daffodils. It was -6 degrees here this morning! 🥶...See More70s Pink/Peach Brick Exterior Update German Schmear or Limewash
Comments (5)I do not thinks grids are the answer for the windows but I do agree to leave the brick as is and think about a much darker color for windows and trim I would also lose that bay window and get a black front door .The front porch can be quite attractive once you can see it after the hedge comes out . IMO landscaping will do more for the house than messing with the brick....See Morecallirhoe123
