flooring question

I have solid carbonized strand bamboo flooring from a discontinued company in my house and have found a perfect visual match but the depth of the boards are different. One is 5/8 in. And the other is 7/16. We are removing a wall to make an open concept and will more than likely have to put a transition where the old and new floor meet. Do you think a flooring professional would be able to make it work? We will be replacing all sub-flooring throughout the kitchen but did not want to rip out the existing flooring because it is in the rest of the house.

I'm not a pro, but a homeowner who chose 2 slightly different heights of flooring that needed to be butted up against each other. I had limestone tiles (slightly thicker) butted against engineered wood (slightly thinner). I had discussions with the store owner, specifying in advance that I did not want transition strips, and could they make the tiles work? They could. It probably helped that it was all being installed together and there was planning in advance, plus their best installation team.

What they did was ramped up the wood floor very slightly as it approached the tile floor. We are years on after install, and it all looks perfectly butted, as a super smooth transition.

Unhelpfully, I don't recall the height difference between the 2 materials, but I would think that your difference is so slight that an excellent installer, properly incentivized, could accomplish this.

1. I would replace it with a vented hood because I am too short to use a microwave that high (and they usually don't vent that well). 2. This is personal and only your family can say what's right. It's not really trendy right now but many people like the desks for some tasks. I like a short area for rolling dough or sitting while doing long food prep tasks. Your counter will look slightly more fabulous if it is all one height, though! 3. I'd want the same oak flooring as the rest of the house, but it might end up too oaky if the cabinets stay the same. What stain is on the old floors? If dark, it might be fine. A tile or stone might be nice in there. Is there natural light in there? How close are other rooms? Is it an open plan? Basically, need more info!!

THe esay answer is plywood added to make up the difference keep in mind all the tile also needs to be removed and once that is done then you can really see what you are dealing with . All the baseboards need to be removed and all the flooring ripped out then you start anew. Are you doing this DIY ? If not the person doing the flooring will advise you on what to do.

Yes, as suggested, the header board will just ramp up a 1/8" to the old height. Cutting a strip of shim is all you need.
