Comments (93)Cupping generally points to an acclimation issue that is the responsibility of the installer, not a manufacturing issue. The manufacturer can make installation recommendations but isn't responsible for things out it their control. What was the moisture level in the flooring upon delivery? Unless the new wood was out of the generally accepted range, that's not an issue. What was the moisture level in the subfloor prior to installation? What was the indoor relative humidity before, during and after installation? An inspector will likely ask for these numbers to determine a cause. What is it the indoor humidity level now? Acclimation related cupping may resolve itself after a full year of seasonal changes. The tiny flaws in your close-up pictures could probably be touched up but the pervasive cracking/splitting would worry me. The advice to find an independent inspector and pay for an inspection is good advice....See MoreLooking for a porcelain tile match for Somerset Hickory Ember
Comments (0)We are interested in using hardwood tile in an enclosed area....the bathroom hallway (linen and vanity area). The option is hardwood flooring as in the rest of the apartment (except WC) or use the same tile as in the WC (husband's preference 12 x 24 Iris Nickel Stroke). My compromise would be hardwood look tile in the linen/vanity area. Our floors in the rest of the apartment will be Somerset Character collection, Hickory Ember 5" EP51HEE (it's more gray than brown, which we prefer). Can anyone point me to porcelain wood look tile that would resemble the grey/brown Hickory Ember flooring? I've tossed out all of my samples since none worked....See MoreSomerset solid hardwood character collection?
Comments (3)We have installed many lines in the Somerset collections- Value, Color and Character. We personally like Somerset hardwood and have not had issues with it and certainly no call backs from our customers about the finish and what not. We love a good wide plank hardwood. Anything over 5" hardwood NEEDS to be glued and stapled. And to be honest, depending on the condition of the home, we glue down and staple 4" hardwood too. It is important to allow proper acclimation of 5" hardwood. The wider the plank, the longer the acclimation. A general rule of thumb is about a week to acclimate 5" but the longer the better. from out team here at The Couture Floor Company The Flooring Blog The Couture Floor Company...See MoreNew Home - Only Armstrong Flooring available

This is the look you will see in FULL SUNLIGHT and either staring STRAIGHT down at your floors or SITTING on your floors. Every other lighting situation will give you the look of the "angled" photos where they look as if they are painted (they are that dark). If you don't want dark floors, then I suggest you get lighter by 2-3 steps. It is obvious you want deep, dramatic floors. This is completely possible WITHOUT having floors so dark they look like they are painted. The show room has enough lighting to keep a small town lit through the winter!!!! That is WAAAAAAY too much light to make an assessment of "mid-tone" vs. "dark". I would start looking at floors that are 2 steps LIGHTER. Take the samples HOME (I know you can't see them in the home being built...don't worry we'll figure something out). Now put the sample in the DARKEST PART of the HALLWAY (or somewhere with ZERO natural light). Good. Now turn OFF the lights. That is how you assess "dark" flooring. If it looks like a BLACK HOLE in a dark hallway, then they are DARK FLOORS. I can guarantee you these two floors (A and B) will look like dark in a darkened space. Absolutely guarantee it. The only way these floors will look "midtone" is in a glass house. I'm not kidding. The same amount of lighting in the store would HAVE TO BE in the home to get these to look lighter. Most people do NOT have that amount of lighting in their home. If they do, they would not be restricted by builder's materials. They would be building a $5M fully customized home with 4 walls of windows in each room. Please take these home to assess the REAL depth of colour. The show room is WAAAAAAY too bright....See MoreTimothy Winzell
