Two identical sofas facing each other in different colors?
Help! Would you place two identical sofas facing each other but in different colors or is that too odd?
I am redoing the living room after 8 years. Here is the photo of the previous living room layout.
I am thinking of placing two CR Laine Westport sofas facing each other with fireplace as a focal point.
I am facing a dilemma because I wanted leather (Dark Smoke or Harness Nut) but feel like the colors would too overwhelming for the space. But I really do not want a two matching fabric sofa either. So I am thinking of getting one sofa in Bubble up Domino and one in leather.
Problem is: I haven't seen two identical sofas facing each other in different colors in any of the ideas photos yet. What do you all think of it? Would it break the harmony too much? Would the dark color or the leather throw off the balance? I intend to keep the table and console but I am planning for a new swivel chair, new rugs and window blinds so I have those colors to play with. Would it be too hard to pull it off? How would you do it? Would love your thoughts.
I have open floor plan that include kitchen, living room and dining room. My current colors are white and dark gray warmed with quarter sewn white oak flooring and warm tone wood tables. Thanks in advance for your input.
BTW, the wall with fireplace is asymmetrical. The cabitnets to the left of the fireplace is 30" wider than the plane white wall to the right.

Comments (7)Thanks guys! You've reassured me that at least I have a backup plan that will work. (magnaverde - that picture cracks me up, LOL!) But I think I will try to post a floor plan w/ measurements and some pics at some point (can't do it today - have some family stuff to go to) and get your collective thoughts on what kind of furniture would work in here. Maybe someone here will have the brilliant flash of insight that's been eluding me for 8 years! It's funny that you mention the weirdness of new house layouts becuase although our house is fairly new, it was built to look like a 200 year old farmhouse and many of the things that were added to give that antique charm are also what make the room so hard to furnish (a half-height stone wall along the back of the room, one entire wall taken up by an off-center colonial-styled paneled fireplace with built in closets to each side that hide the entertainment components, a good chunk of the flooring is very bumpy fieldstone - it serves well as a hearth for the fireplace but it's way too lumpy to sit furniture on, etc.) It all looks beautiful, but it really doesn't function for a family who just wants to hang out and watch tv. I will definitely do up a floor plan and some pictures -- hopefully sometime this coming week. Our current furniture is circa mid-90s, navy blue, and overstuffed (ugh, what was I thinking?) -- it served us well, but now that the kids have outgrown the jump-on-the-furniture-stage, I can't wait to replace it. Comments (19)Yes, that is the exact set up we have--- and that part of our basement has a width of about 14 or 15 feet I think so it is very similar to yours. In fact, our ID brought one of the walls in closer to create a more intimate "inglenook" type area. We don't have a problem with stiff necks while watching anything if we're sitting upright. And we have two swivel chairs at the ends of the sofas where one can view easily, but the prime real estate is still the sofas. I have to ask, though, for people whose sofas face the tv: does it hurt your neck to watch while you are lying on the sofa? Comments (1)Definitely go with a fabric, same on both recliners. Depending upon the colors in your room, do something other than brown. You will want to contrast, just a bit, with your sofa. last monthWe might suggest looking at other options, as two sofas facing one another can work, however two different colored sofas might be a little too much. If you're getting two sofas, the best layout might be the current one you already have in the space. Otherwise why not try a sofa and two chairs, or a small sectional and a chair, it'll be a lot more versatile.

Took a bit of scrolling through the photos to find these! If you have to have different sofas, then I think that an "L" layout is better than having them across from each other.
