When you change the bedding add light colored curtains to the windows. The room just feels stuffy.

Lovely photo posted by Lyn Nielson. That should be your goal. In the meantime, remove the red runner from the double dresser and replace it with white linen. Since you can’t change furniture, rugs, or paint, maybe you could replace the mirror, perhaps with a vintage-look gold or bronze frame (nothing ornate). Take a look at the wooden knickknacks in the room. The birdhouses are cute, but since you’ve correctly identified that your problem is too much wood, replace them with something else (a few vintage white pitchers?) or remove altogether.

I go with more neutral bedding, and lampshades on the lamps next to the bed. I love the lampshade color on the dresser. Perhaps bring it into the room as an accent color. Maybe replace the large painting over the bed with something narrower and more neutral. I think a creamy white looks so pretty with oak and the cool green accents- think Jade ware would be pretty.

Ivory linens will take the “orange” feel away.

Maybe a small area rug on each side of the bed to step on, and add some color.

I agree that you should move the artwork over the bed. It looks cramped there and makes the ceiling feel low. I think probably leave that spot empty. There’s enough going on with the headboard and bedposts; put art elsewhere.

Is the carpet blue or gray? It looks purple on my screen too. When you look at neutrals for the bedding, see whether warm or cool neutrals look best i.e. white vs cream. Lyn's picture looks great but the wood colour is not orange at all.

My suggestion is to get rid of the printed comforter. Re-design your guest bedroom in all white with a fuzzy white throw rug, and white sheer curtains, and a round table with fresh flowers. A bed tray with magazines, bottle waters, and a small dish with chocolates. Put two hooks on your wall and hang matching robes on them, with slippers on the side of the bed. Also, purchase some pictures for your walls with flower prints which will bring warmth into the room. Additionally, a few colorful throw pillows should do the trick.😉

And replace the lamp shades. Have you considered changing the light bulbs to a brighter white?

Your furnishings and wall decor are very interesting and authentic..it looks to me like something more narrow and linear..or slightly arched above the bed (as the focal point)…would add to the authenticity and have the same historical feel..for the same reason a simple bedspread ..a sort of homespun natural textured fabric ….that will not distract or compete with the lovely furniture…have you tried to peek under the carpet?..

Simply changing the bedding and removing all the red & orange accessories will transform the room with your light taupe walls and taupe carpet.
