Sheesh I don't have time now, as I should already be in bed, but the easiest way to do the fake fold over pillow is to make one length of the pillow enough longer to make the fake flap. If you want the flap to be one inch then add two inches to that side. Fold the pillow with wrong sides together and sew a line down one inch from fold. When open you'll have your fake flap. I did ask for the same pattern next year and am planning to put them all together. I wanted to make a full-size quilt in all blues and therefore need more than just the 12 from this year. I figure, instead of making them myself, I'd do the same block next year and then make a spectacular quilt and pillow set! The overall effect didn't come through too well in the group shot, but I wanted to try to show it anyways. I think this is the type of block that looks a lot better when there are a bunch of them grouped into a pattern, rather than individually.

Do not pull a thread to get cut unless you are sure that the fabric is or can be straightened so it's perfectly straight. Cutting out pillow cases it is not really necessary to have the material threads perfectly straight and your sheet may not be to start with. If you don't have a metal yardstick you can borrow your husbands framing square. For some things where I want a crisp cutting line and the edges will be covered I often use a sharp pencil and mark on the back. Often I make a paper pattern too if I'm goimg to be cutting several things the same--like the chair pads I'm making now. If I were cutting pillow cases from a sheet like you are doing, I use the iron for marking. I fold over the length--in your case 33--30 for the case-- 2 inch hem and 1/2 inch to fold under for hem and 1/2 inch seam allowance. Then I'd measure and press a crease along my cut line and when I was satisfied everything was even I'd cut that piece off along the crease. Then fold accordion style for the width 21 inches--20 for the case and 1 inch for the 2 side seams, and cut. This way you only have to measure for the first one and make all the creases the same. I'd make french seams all around too. To make a french seam you sew on the right side close to the cut edge. cut off diagonally the points on your corners, then flip to the wrong side and sew using a 1/4 inch seam. This puts the cut edge inside the seam for a neat look. My list of haves to sew--lots of bobbins, tailors chalk, seam ripper, tape measure, good sharp scissors that are used for nothing but material, good quality thread--the cheap stuff gives you nothing but trouble and plenty ov different sized sewing machine needles. I use mostly the ball point ones and I change them often. Nice things to have--a rotory cutter and cutting mat, a metal yardstick, a hemming ruler, a small scissors for threads and clipping. I'm sure there's more but I can't think of them right now. A good thing to have to store your sewing tools in is a fishing tackle box like the ones they use for fishing flies. It has neat little compartments that lets you organize things

All I can say is WOW, I literally got goose bumps reading through the responses and I appreciate every single one. Thank you. In regards to the check, to the shop owner's credit, she told me when she was having issues with the fabric that she was going to wait to cash the check until I was satisfied. But when she told me she was canceling the order, I lost trust and put a stop payment. She was supposed to return it with the fabric but didn't so there you go, it could have been worse right? Even though it's an upsetting experience, I don't want to assume she was intentionally being dishonest, my gut tells me she's just trying to provide herself with part time work doing something she enjoys and there was no malice or ill intent. After all, she didn't cash my check and she DID at least replace 4 yards of the printed fabric. What she doesn't understand is that because she canceled the order, she's responsible for returning ALL of the materials I sent her even if that means rebuying them. Etsy concured and I'm going to let them do their thing; hopefully, she will see things differently once they've spoken with her. I really hesitated to post about this because you never know how a thread will morph but I'm glad I did. I still think the concept behind Etsy is really an awesome idea and it provides opportunities that wouldn't normally be attainable for a lot of people, it's sad that a few bad apples have soured it.
