Healthy Lifestyle Progress - Week of 1/28/2024
Comments (16)Sorry for everyone who is dealing with illnesses. It is so difficult to keep on track when stuff comes up. Gscience you have my admiration for focusing on your exercises. For many years with my physical struggles I used my health problems as an excuse. No more. As far as I'm concerned never again. But I really do believe we all have to decide for ourselves whether we are going to struggle with this or use our energy for something else. I hope this procedure you have done was helpful and took care of the problem. Hugs to you. Hugs to everyone. For me it's the cold I had for two and a half weeks. It has finally loosened it's hold on me. Also the stupid migraines. B2 vitamins seem to be taking the edge off so hopefully they will work as well as the flax oil did that took my migraines away completely for those 5 years. Exercise is going well. I am generally sticking to it. I do the exercises three times a week but I also don't do it exactly on the same day some weeks. Yesterday I was playing catch up for Wednesday's exercise day. I will likely fudge it and do it later tonight for my Friday so I don't have to do those kind of exercises on Saturday and Sunday. I truly love my weekends off. So in general with the exercises intermittent fasting and trying to get a handle on my health things are working. I have to watch my cheese intake darn it. I love cheese. It settles nicely on my hips.. Best to everyone! Have a great weekend! I do think of you often; I'm just not a very good writer.. still know that I'm here sometimes way too silently supporting you all....See MoreHealthy Lifestyle Progress - Week of 2/11/2024
Comments (29)Oakley hope the medication works. It seems to be working for my DS who has bad bad blood sugar fluctuations and not a great relationship with healthy food. She will be 65 soon enough so I don't think that will change. Shrug. Glad to hear that some of you are doing well with the water. Not I. It seems I can only get down two drinks a day. One is half water half juice and the other one is a cup of ginger tea or decaf coffee. I try to drink another half glass of water in the early evening but always seem to forget. Also I'm not a good protein eater. I think I'm failing in that whole healthy food thing. I fail dismally at replacing the meat for vegetarian protein sources, as I only eat chicken fish and seafood, when I eat animal protein food and often forget to do that. I do eat eggs in the morning and about every third day I add tinned sardines to my faux pho. I love it when I have it but can't have noodle soup everyday. Also I am disappointed that I can't dance my way into muscles.. ;-):-). I have to do more weightlifting so I'm going to try a Zumba with light weights class. I know I need it and if it is successful I will continue to utilize dance with weightlifting. I know they suggest backpacking with weights as well so perhaps I will try that. I suppose I could dance while I am backpacking ;-). Wishing everyone continued success and still totally envious of those who have Pilates in their life. Can't afford it. For some reason can't find a Pilates instruction online that I stick with. So far. ETA this squats improving exercise set. I find this very helpful. https://youtu.be/BqF90pMpjb4?si=VMl19XEFa5C5Ia0E...See MoreHealthy Lifestyle Progress - Week of 2/18/2024
Comments (24)After watching a bunch of videos thrown my way of people who have lost large amounts in shortish time periods, I realize even with the occasional loss (and that is ALL I have been seeing for the last year), I need to get more serious. I am not looking to do anything extreme for quick weight loss-- it's not healthy or sustainable for me-- but I do need to make some serious adjustments. I too easily let myself veer off path and choose something that is less than healthy because of time constraints or just because I WANT them. I did track most days this week ... even the day I had nothing but 2 packs of ramen and a snack pack of fig newtons. That hurt :( but it also made me realize that I am too easily swayed and sabotaged by my own self. I can't sit and whine that I am making no progress when I am not putting in the effort. I have been mostly talk and no walk for the last year. I sat down this morning and recommitted to a healthier lifestyle every single day. It isn't going to happen just because I want it to. I told my team earlier this week, we are not going to successfully hit our targets unless we make changes TODAY. With that in mind, I have identified 3 things that I can easily change starting TODAY: Return to and stick to intermittent fasting (this will start tomorrow because I already had a large orange before 10am). NO chips, pretzels, pizza or any high calorie/low value indulgences for any reason until my birthday in April. get outside and active at least 3x a week - could be a walk, jumping rope or yard work. Must be outside and active. I'd like to increase this # but for now, 3x will require effort to be successful. It's important to me that my changes are easily achievable with effort and without stress/anxiety. I am fully aware that I have said these words before lol ... but I am committing to them. I have a few trips coming up in April/May and that will be my motivation but in case that is not enough, I am budgeting/earmarking funds I will make available only if I stick to the above from now to mid April. If I do, I will purchase some items for my trips and have extra money to spend on them. It may seem silly lol ... but these are things that motivate me. I gotta go with what works!...See MoreHealthy Lifestyle Progress - Week of 4/14/2024
Comments (13)Now that tracking has become second nature to me it no longer seems obsessive, just something I do as automatically as I brush my teeth.. Some days I don’t even look at the calorie total, but I get a weekly summary from Lose It! and of course I also track my weight daily. Those metrics— two daily and one weekly— guide me with very little effort. This past weekend we had an Easter make-up for all those who were not home for the actual holiday. Honeybaked ham, cole slaw, potato salad, kale and beans and fennel, strawberry shortcake….it was a delicious Southern food fest! Monday morning when I got my weekly report I saw the macros and the scale kindly codified that information into a number 🙄 I already knew I was in dangerous territory without the report but there is something very compelling about hard data, for me anyway. Today is my 700th day of consecutive tracking. I have not weighed every one of those days (sometimes we’ve been out of town with no scale and sometimes i was in a rush or just forgot) but I’ve weighed more than 90% of those days. IMO maintaining a weight is as or more important for me than losing, and it takes both mindfulness and resolve— and the accountability built into the daily measurement of food and weight— for me to maintain. Yesterday I walked the dogs on a very hilly route again, trying to make sure I am in shape for our next trip. Still doing the elliptical at the gym and have added a few workouts on various nautilus machines for strength and targeted toning (I’m talking to you, arms!)....See MoreFeathers11
