Starting from dirt- literally! A basement bath DIY Adventure pt2
Comments (178)Not really bathroom related, but yet another tale for those who love stories about MrG - we are in the process of finishing off the rest of the useable basement (all of it minus the utility) and MrG has reared his ugly head yet again - remember wayyyyy back at the beginning of this adventure when I talked about the wavy concrete floor - OMG. So the rest of the basement is going to be loads of fun. It's out of level over an inch in quick checks - problem being it's too high in those spots - compared to where we will meet at the doorway (now beautifully tiled) to the laundry room. No, I will not let Mr.Hunzi break out and replace the concrete - we all know how that turned out last time, the end result may have been lovely, but the 10yr wait and the 3yr process is just too much for a second round of that sort of fun. ;-) And the future flooring is lovely, not inexpensive heart pine - unless I have to find an alternative to accommodate the Ghost of MrG. For lottery ticket and enduring and nancy who kept me company through the whole saga of bathroom and dirt before - come over and offer your wisdom at the home decorating forum - which is where I thought might fit best for the Studio Pink Babe Cave Adventure!...See MoreGuest Bedroom--Please Help Me Design
Comments (12)Autumn, I would suggest that you look at nightanddayfurniture.com. You say this will be a seldom used room you don't want to put a lot of $$$ into. However, you want it to look nice. Furniture made by this company is ready to assemble (rta). I've had their Chameleon bed for about four years, and it still looks like new. At that time cost was about $550 for a double bed. It has a lot of custom options. The headboard panels pop off if you want to cover with your own fabric. The bedrail adjusts to two different heights. Other accessories include roll out under bed drawers and a fold out footboard bench. Matching nightstands, dressers, chests, mirrors, and desks are also available. I purchased less expensive wood rta under bed drawers from another company and stained them to match the bed. Two drawers were $110 and push further under so I'm not hitting my toes when making the bed in the morning. I only use a foam mattress, no box springs, and all guests have commented how well they sleep. They also have a four poster bed, rattan bed, and other styles. Unlike you, my bedroom is tiny. I used an entertainment drawer with a supporting corbel beneath from Kraftmaid on each side of the bed to allow easy access to the under bed drawers. These are in white and the bed is stained cherry. I purchased a rta cherry coffee table from Night & Day and cut up the top so the night stand tops would match the bed. The bottom line is to use your imagination to do what best meets your needs....See MoreVinyl in laundry/child's bath/guest bath of high end home?
Comments (19)We put in LVP in a high-end home for the function with dogs and in a snowy climate and love it for function and comfort. We have stone flooring in the baths and laundry, carpet in the bedrooms and have whole house radiant heat. The stone conducts the heat the best and stays nice and toasty in the bathrooms. Like Mrs. Pete, I wouldn't like tile in the kitchen because it is so hard on your body to stand on for long periods and gives me a backache (for comparison we had tile in the kitchen in our old house for the last 17 years and before that we had sheet vinyl). There are some really fun sheet vinyls out there. I wouldn't hesitate using a cool sheet vinyl in the mudroom, laundry and child's bath, but I would probably go with tile in the guest bath (even without heating -- guest baths are usually fairly compact and a couple of plush rugs will take the chill off)....See MoreRemodeling 3 children or guest baths for home sale
Comments (54)Beth H. As pretty as your bath is, I also love your black kitty cat! I had a black cat for 12 years until he died, and could not get anymore because of my children's allergies to cats. I have a large skylight over my whirlpool tub in my own home and love it. I could do a big shower if I took that whirlpool out, but I happen to be one of those rare persons who uses their whirlpool all the time. In the home I'm remodeling, could I just do an accent in the niche and eliminate a stripe? The new build homes around my area all seem to have accent borders either vertical or horizontal. I agree with Tatts above about borders being like wall paper borders, only problematic to change. I just not have been in one new build home, not model home, but hew builds for sale that have not had accent tiles in every single bathroom. I don't have them in my own home, so I didn't really know. Your accents are so tastefully done, but also in your master....See MoreJAN MOYER
