Remodeling Flooring Design Dilemma

What flooring for dry bar & entry?

We are doing a mini remodel of our basement, which includes a black slat wall, black cabinets, and butcherblock counters (probably walnut). We are putting in LVP or LVT around the dry bar (spills) and entry (dirty/wet shoes). Wondering what you all think about color/type? Wood look LVP or match the LVT in our adjacent bathroom?

I would at least match the LVT in style though I might go a lighter color, as you are bringing lots of black in and are risking a cave like room. I'd go with a warm wood look that compliments the butcher block, especially since you will have a lot of black going on. The bathroom is a separate space so it doesn't need to match it. Tile looks are more expected in bath spaces than wood looks so the separation/difference between those spaces isn't a big deal. I would also run it throughout if funds permit, not just the bar and entry.

I dont know what kind of washer you have, but our Bosch front loader spins clothes so dry they rarely take more than 15 min to dry in the dryer. We hang things up all the time and there has never been a single drip from any of the air drying garments. When we remodeled our laundry room i had Cabinet Guy build an airing cupboard in one corner. It has a hanging bar and several vents in the top for air circulation, and is situated right next to the Hvac vent for that room. It was built on site with no floor so our vacuum can roll right into its spot without picking it up at all. The whole thing is really useful, and if we did not have it the pulley dryer would be a great alternative. We considered this drying rack but it doesnt hang enough stuff, and i wanted wallpaper and it would have covered too much of the wall. So if you arent sold on the Sheila Maidyou could considerone of these, or if you are putting in cabs, fit one with a rod and vent holes at top. Go to the hardware store and read a can of water based polyurethane if that is what they are using or the oil based polyurethane. We refinished our floors ourselves and it clearly states that on the can. It also advises about how heavy of traffic it can take and when. We had our orientals washed and stored for 6 months because of the work we were going to do on our kitchen. HTH

Dry Bar/Buffet for Dining Room

Rockybird, yes it is in a visible area, the dining room. To me it is similar to having a china hutch in a dining room (which is common) but is more useful because it has additional counter space. Is there a specific reason you don't like it or you just don't like the idea? I would be open to hearing constructive criticism and ideas, since I am still trying to make the design better. weedyacres, The entire wall is 134", to the left of the window is 47" and to the right is 48" I have thought about a buffet, but we really need storage for 8 place settings of china, nice silverware, quite a bit of glassware (beer, red & white wine, champagne, martini, margarita, rocks...we like to use the proper glassware for what we are drinking), plus our booze which is currently being stored in 10 cases. I just don't think that only a buffet is going to cut it for all that storage. Plus my husband has a nice bourbon collection and we would like to display some of it rather than have it behind a cabinet door. Also the window is only 30" off the floor and I really don't want to put a piece of furniture that is taller than 25" in front of it.

IMO you need to decide if you need it when I look at the pic I see a space that coulld be used as an office or a nice spot to watch TV when hubby has sports on but in either case I would remove the dry bar do the flooring and then decide what you want frome the space . In my experience my clients who insist on a seating space in the bedroom rarely use it and the furniture just becomes a place to throw clothes .What ever you decide please deal with the lighting for sure . Does the bedroom have ahuge walk in closet ? What is outside the door? I try really hard to keep clients from making huge decisions in a new house since houses have a way of telling you how to use the spaces . I sure hope if new floors are now happening you get enought to do all the spaces the same and extra for the kitchen

Thanks both! We don't want to replace all of the carpet - we live in a cold climate and our basement is already chilly (hence the fireplace). Not to mention this is cheaper! I should've done a poll - so far 1:1. We are also only doing one wall in the paneling so the rest will still be light - drift of mist. Our carpet is also light. Going for a theater space kind of look on this wall. I got my way in the rest of the house (light and bright) so I'm giving in a bit to DH in this space.

Also our main floor is hardwood - medium/dark tone. I realize different floors can have different flooring but I wouldnt' want a wood look that was drastically different.

We ended up going with a very dark/nearly black floor and are happy with our choice (Karndean charcoal LVT). Thanks for your input!
