Let's talk about our best friends.
Comments (27)My best friends are the girls I have known since childhood. Vicki, Kathy, Mary, Marilyn and Donna. Mary lived next door, Vicki and Kathy down the block, Marilyn around the corner and Donna I met the first day of Grade 9. She was the only one in the class who had a dress on. LOL I am close to all of them but they aren't necessarily close with each other. Vicki and I are close, Kathy and I are close, Marilyn and Mary are close, Kathy is Godmother to Mary's oldest. Marilyn has been close to each of us at different times but we all get along and a few times a year Mary has all of us over and sometimes Mary will only have Vicki, Kathy and I over. I spend most of my time with Vicki, Kathy and Donna. Vicki was with me at my Mom's bedside when she passed away and held my Mom's hand. Kathy's Mom just passed away a few weeks ago and I was really close to Kathy's Mom. Kathy's Dad called me his "adopted daughter" after my own Dad passed away. Kathy would say I was closer to her Dad than she was. He liked to tell stories and I liked to listen. LOL Mary's Mom is 91 years old and when she sold her house next door I missed her terribly. She is still going strong and I talked with her last week at Kathy's Mom's funeral. Donna knows Kathy from Grade school and knows Vicki through me. They are just acquaintances and know each other through me. Vicki's Mom used to be friends with my oldest sister since they grew up on the same street so Vicki's Mom has a picture of me and Vicki when we were just babies. All the girls are married except Kathy and I and still have good marriages. Marilyn met her husband Doug when we were in highschool and "had" to get married. LOL Those were some trying times. Mary's husband Mark was the boy around the corner - our paperboy and we always knew Mary and Mark would end up together since we were kids. Mary was Bucky and Mark was Duck. LOL Kathy was Moo, I was Higgy, Vicki was Druke and Marilyn was Armie. Kathy's Mom called me Higgy right up until the week she died. One day I will post pictures of us now that I have this laptop and once I get a scanner. We had such a good time growing up together and they will be my best friends 'til the day I die. Comments (84)They lived next door. My Mom and my brother still do. My Dad was surrounded by the people he loved and who loved him. It hasn't been as tough on me as I thought it would be. This is something I have been very afraid of for many years. But I'm handling it well, and my Mom is doing real good. That might change after all the family has left. But for now I'll take the peace of knowing he is finally resting. I would like to thank everyone here for the kind words and the thoughts and prayers. We really appreciate it. I need to spend more time over here instead of on Facebook. It just didn't feel right to post this on FB, but it did here. I try to come over here at least every couple of days. So even if I don't post and you don't see me, I'm still here. I appreciate each and every one of you. And I can post now without feeling like I need to cry. Comments (25)Thank you guys so much for giving me another perspective. I never really felt like I was a "good DIL" I just felt like it was the right thing to do and that DH and I were the right people for the job. He is a Paramedic and I WAS an Paramedic. We both felt that we were the most capable. That helped during those situations when my FIL had fallen and gotten injured or when his sugar got dangerously low, or when he set his stove on fire and filled his house with thick black smoke. A professional "switch" goes on and we got to work. It's all those other quiet moments when we just sat and talked that I think about now. He was a victim of circumstance and like a child at the same time. It was just like when I had and infant that needed me in the middle of the night. What else did he have? The funny thing was he has two biological daughters, my DH was adopted and in the middle, neither one of us were related to him. Thanks so much for your kind words, they really do mean a lot....See MoreOur Dear Friend is gone
Comments (44)Thank you everyone for all your kind expressions. We were watching a movie tonight and a couple of times I could swear I felt a nudge against the side of the chair. Bubba's favorite thing was to rub his muzzle against one side of the chair while I scratched the other side. In the morning we had to have our nuggies - he'd start at the foot of the bed, rub his muzzle, continue on around to the front, I'd scratch his head and muzzle and he'd turn around to get the other side down. Buddy, the beagle has been mopping around all day. He usually goes out doors a large number of times, but today has only been a few times. I also think the snow (at least 16 inches or more and still snowing) has something to do with that. But more so, I'm sure he misses his pal. The vet's assistant said we needed to get another dog to keep Buddy company, but no thanks. I'm sure she was half serious, but Buddy will be enough for now and for the future. To all those who said I was a good doggy daddy, thank you. There were times I was really wondering if I/we were doing the right thing, but I am now more firmly convinced that we did. Thanks KTers....See More- 2 years ago
