And speaking of gifts......
Comments (4)Agnes, do you mean one like to linked? It's far superior to the little aluminum 'zimmers" (as they are called in England) with small wheels. The larger wheels can better roll over surface irregularities, and the zimmer's little wheels can actually be dangerous, catching on every small thing on the ground. For some people, tho, the problem is that Medicare only pays for a zimmer-style walker, and you can't apply the cost to an upgrade, either. You can shop around for a good price, too. When my mother needed one, we found that the local medical supply store's price was more than twice what we paid online, with free shipping, no less. My client who is on a very restricted income got one from the manager of her apartment complex, left when another tenant moved into a nursing home. So it's good to ask around. My friend calls it her Cadillac. ;-) Thanks for mentioning this Agnes, it's a great idea. Here is a link that might be useful: Rolling walker...See MoreSpeaking of Wacky Gifts....
Comments (4)We smoke our own pork jowl, so we use it a lot (it's a Hungarian thing, I guess :-) It's like bacon but with a very silky texture. Use it in place of bacon or salt pork for bean soups or split pea soup. A traditional use for it is in Cabbage Soup. Brown some slices or cubes of jowl, add a chopped onion, and saute until golden. I add some garlic, too. I usually add a couple of country style ribs (browned in the jowl fat). Add one large can of tomato juice with a little water (I rinse out the tomato juice can and add that to the soup). Add 1/2 head of cabbage (shredded or sliced thick - whatever you prefer) and simmer until the meat is tender. For texture, I add the remaining half of the cabbage and simmer more until the cabbage is just done. Good stuff. Lucky you!...See MoreQuestions about pictocin and about gift for nurses in hospital
Comments (24)If they give you the pitocin, get the epidural. I didn't want the epidural but after a while, the pain left me no choice. They gave me another drug before the epidural and all it did was calm the contractions - prolong labor for a what seemed an eternity. Depending on how much they give you, Pit, as others have said here, can be very very uncomfortable. DD was 10lbs and wouldn't stay turned. There was talk of a C-section but she eventually decided it was time to say Hi. The trend is to walk a lot even with pit and contractions going at the same time. That will help, but it can be rough too. I've never heard of any fetal distress from the pit but you and the baby will be monitored. Unless you have a strong coach, I wouldn't try the pit without the epidural or some other paid meds. You will wear yourself out - and you want to have all of your strength to hold that beautiful bundle of joy!! Congratulations and best wishes. Babies are such a joy, and bring you so much fun and love. gneegirl...See MoreHow about no gifts at Christmas get togethers?
Comments (10)Azzalea, your sis in law IS my sis in law. And during the early years of my marriage ~the women, not a man in sight~ would burn both ends of the candle to try and get the holidays in gear. Moving many years down, I seem to be the lone person who still enjoys finding that gift that represents the person its given to. I MAY pick out a gift they don't like of course but I do try to be thoughtful. Everyone else has gotten to the point where they seem frustrated with the whole idea of gift giving. When they do give, my kids thank them and I end up wondering what I'm going to do with the girls new gifts of 8 lip glosses with added glitter, chocolate pudding hand lotion and new jewelry box (when they already have one OR two extra, given to them last year). So I'm the grinch or not, I'm going to do a new idea for gifts. The aunts and uncles can give charity or nothing. I didn't say this before but I have rules given to me too. I had a college basket for my niece and was told by my sis in law that no gifts to the college children. I ended up saving everything and giving it to another girl in college. I was so sad because I spent several hours and many days thinking of just the right things for my neice. Sounds like we are all butting heads about now. I hope we can come to some agreement. As far as traditions, sheesh, the inlaws don't have much to speak of. Like I said, the woman buy cook and feed the men,as they sit there like playdough with smiley faces and do nothing. The kids play in the basement. Boy would I like to implement some traditions but the best I can do is to make traditions for my family of 5. If I tried to force the all my ideas on them during a get together ,,the will snub the idea out like a cigarette.. They LIKE doing nothing. Yawn, so since I like my dh, I will endure being bored....See Moreeld6161
