Fourth Keurig machine is dead!
Comments (48)I have a Tassimo. This is my second....the first lasted a couple of years, this one is about 4 years old. I have a girlfriend that has had two stop working for her. Not sure how often she used it. I use mine for 4-5 cups a week....one cup a day for myself; on the weekend I use my auto drip for more than a cup a day. I have stayed with the Tassimo because of the milk discs for lattes and cappacinnos that I don't think Kuerig has. The Tassimo is not as popular and therefore the discs are not as highly available as the Kuerig; however, they can be found at Target, Walmart, and BB&B, and of course online. I don't think the machines are quite as expensive as the Keurig, but I could be wrong about that since I haven't bought one in a while. Overall, I do like the Tassimo. The only time it gives me an issue is if the bar code can't be read well, but I can usually remedy that with a quick swipe across the reader. Not really sure why that happens. It's not dirty, just sensitive it seems. I have had to 'reset' it with the power switch before too. It is convenient for a quick cup of coffee....the kids like their hot chocolate and other flavors as well, when you're sick and need hot tea as quickly as possible, it's great too....but like I said, it's only for a one-cupper around here, otherwise, we make a bigger pot....See MoreQuestion about Keurig coffee, best price
Comments (26)I do love my Keurig. I only drink one cup of coffee a day, sometimes tea in the evening. For guests, I keep a wide variety of strengths and flavors, as well as teas, hot chocolate, apple cider and some cold flavored teas as well. I usually buy from Green Mountain online. They have absolutey the largest selection and right now free shipping if you buy 2 boxes. I just checked price of one flavored coffee. If you are a member (just register), the price is .58 per cup. The ease of delivery and large selection makes it an easy choice for me. Here is a link that might be useful: green mountaiin...See MoreAging in place with caffeine: which Keurig?
Comments (17)Yes, keep it filled, only the next cup is heating. I leave mine on 24/7 which is probably a bit wasteful but the unit doesn't get particularly warm so it's probably not too bad. I don't know how the lower models are now, but I bought Platinum from the start because it's quieter. I have friends whose cheaper models we're wake-the-house-up loud. Ok, maybe that's an exaggeration, but they were pretty bad. Brew size options - it's really the only way to control strength, so the more sizes to play with the better. I typically use 6 oz, but my inlaws just bought me big box of Green Mountain medium roast which tastes like water to me unless I double up 4oz servings. Internal water filter - these were optional on some and standard on others last I looked. Something to consider if their water needs it. Yes I like it "enough" but I can't say I've ever had a cup of Keurig that I've particularly loved. But the convenience can't be beat....See MoreKeurig coffee, soil, and grass seed
Comments (3)I'm going to do this as an experiment in the spring. Put grass seed in Keurig cups filled with the leftover grinds only; in cups filled with grinds and topsoil; and in cups filled with only topsoil. I will also test the differences between KBG and TTTF in this experiment. And then also note the follow-up success once removed from the cups and planted in the lawn (maybe half in June and the rest in September). It should be easy to control for all the other things like water and sunlight. I have a hunch that recycling these used plastic k-cups will work great for growing singular grass plugs. For convenience sake, I hope that the cups filled only with coffee grinds will be successful. If if I understand this properly, coffee is acidic until brewed; all of the acid is washed into the beverage, leaving behind coffee grinds with a neutral ph....See Moresalonva
