Please help! How do I Hide the Gas Line in my Fireplace?

I just converted my gas fireplace to have fire glass, but the unsightly gas line is showing!
I tried covering it with lava rocks...but it ended up looking like a random pile of poo :(
I do not think I can pile the fire glass up high enough to cover it without it overflowing from the fireplace.
Whatever I use to cover it needs to be able to be in the fire. Future plans to re-do the mantle and replace existing tile with black, white, or marbled tile.

Add an elbow pointing downwards that is the same size fitting as the black flex line. You can then rebend the flex line so it is completely hidden under the glass. All you will see is the current fitting and the elbow.

It would be even cleaner if you can replace the fitting that is coming into the fireplace with an elbow, but you may not be able to get a second wrench on it to hold the incoming pipe so it does not unscrew. You can try taking that fitting off anyways and if it seems to come loose without the inner pipe unscrewing, you can do it yourself. Otherwise, you will need a plumber to do it so you don't end up with that inner pipe leaking.

Thanks for the replies. I agree it would be really silly to build the chimney if you couldn't burn wood. Apparently, the last people who lived here never used the fireplace (according to the neighbors). They did leave behind a cord of wood though. It seems they thought you couldn't use wood either. I thought about leaving the ceramic logsjust to make it easier to switch between ambient fire (gas) and heat producing flame (wood). Now that you mention it, it would look strange. I think Xanndra hit the nail of the head. I did a Google for gas starters and they look nothing like to large tray type set up we have. I guess we'll have the chimney folks out to give us an esitmate on a good cleaning and retrofit. Thanks again. BTW, I got in a flurry since the furnance went out and we have to wait a couple of days for a repairman. It's not below freezing just yet, but the kids and dog aren't at all happy. The gas fire does nothing but send hot, expensive air up the chimney. We were looking forward to an actual warm fire.

Hi I have a 1977 home with a double fireplace that is see through from the living room into the dining room. How can I convert this to gas? It seems like it is impossible to do this and keep the see thru feature. Can I just have gas logs installed? If yes- vented or unvented? I also read about some that are partially vented?? Mixed border- find 4 or 5 shrubs, broadleaved evergreens, and conifers that get to the desired size and mix 'em up. That way when you need to replace one you don't destroy uniformity because there is none. Intersperse a few small trees and underplant with a combination of ground cover and perennials.
