    My heartfelt thanks go out to all of you, long time and more recently acquired friends, for your good wishes!

    We've had a couple of rather small snows and the rains came and took them away.

    On my birthday, which was warm, a family nearby sent me some food and a birthday cake, and a lady who'd picked up me a while ago, and some later, we'd talked a few times and she'd invited us to a Chtistmas gathering at her home, called to wish me happy birthday.

    The water in a couple of wells on the farm still test as being undrinkable and a friend a couple of miles up the road has been giving us water that he treats. We have three bottles that hold about three gallons each, and I forgot to take one to him when going out, so was starting to take one. Usually I walk about a kilometer, a bit over 6/10 of a mile, to a corner where there's more traffic, going to an indigenous community nearby where many go for cheaper gas, smokes and weed.

    I'd hitchhired only a few hundred feet beyond the end of my lane when a car stopped, driven by a young woman, which is quite unusual: more than half of the kindly people who let me share their car for a few minutes are female, but almost all are at least crowding middle age.

    She was planning to turn left at the corner, less than a kilometer away, so I was doubly amazed that she'd picked me up. She generously agreed to drive me a mile or so beyond to deliver my empty water bottle, and drove a little way up the short lane, covered with unmarked snow. I carried my bottle to my friend's door, returned to the lady's car and when we started back she said that she would take me home, and I'm fairly sure that she wasn't aware just how far that was.

    I said that I had a better idea: that when we get to that road where she'd planned to turn left, we turn right, I go into the indigenous community with her, and when she was ready, we turn right again into the road we were now on, and she drop me at my place.

    She agreed that was a good idea, so that's what she did, en route to her home in St. Thomas, a small city about ten miles away.

    Would, maybe, about one in a million people pick up a hitchhiker within less than three quarters of a mile of where they were going to turn off of that road?

    Again, thank you all for your good wishes at my birthday.

    I hope that I'll be able to communicate sensible stuff for a few years yet.

    As for all of us - that remains to be experienced!
