Comments (6)Thanks, guys, but there are no sheet metal screw heads visible anywhere inside the housing, only the rivets that hold the trim onto the housing. I poked around through the three slits in the sides and did not feel any clips, either, so how this sucker is held in place is a mystery. So far all I've managed to do is gouge the plaster and annoy my wife. Any thoughts?...See MoreRelocating or removing a recessed light
Comments (4)Good luck working through the existing can light hole with only 3 or 4 inches of clearance. This should have been addressed before the cabinet was installed. Better yet, after the old cabinet was removed but before the new one was installed. It is just going to make what would have been a simple job much harder than it needs to be. Sorry if it seems I am being critical. This is just a typical scenario where nobody thinks about the electrical until it is too late. Worse yet is when the customer then has the nerve to complain about the price being "higher than it should be"....See MoreRemoving Recessed Lighting
Comments (15)Rehabbers in my town drywall over plaster ceilings and walls. I guess it is easier than fixing the plaster or removing it. There might be clues in the house. Does any room have a higher ceiling? How high is the dining room ceiling? Does the room above the living room have any openings that you could look down into? For example, my bedroom, which is over the dining room, has holes in the floor in the corner and a floor vent. To answer your question, you could take a hole saw and drill out a small hole. If you decide not to proceed with tearing down the ceiling, you put a piece of drywall back in, mud, sand, and prime and then paint the entire ceiling. (I would try at least one of the suggestions above first.)...See MoreRecessed lighting, insulation removed can I reinstall insulation first
Comments (3)Yes you can retrofit, if you have clearance. I installed a pot light near the edge of the house (hip roof) and it came close to not fitting. I agree with ICAT cans. Otherwise you would have to get in the attic and spray foam around the entire can to make it air tight (leave electric box accessible). Having air tight pot lights in an unconditioned attic is very important. Not important if the pot lights are between floors in the conditioned space....See MoreJames Lee
