Plain old behr paint? for cabinets? I wouldn't. (I like Behr for walls, but not for cabinets. There are MUCH better options avail. and you don't want to skimp on quality for cabs. It's worrisome that a professional cabinet painter only likes behr?? Are these painters cab finishers or just plain old painters? Very important you get a pro that does Cabinets for a living, and not as an addition to painting houses)

BM Advance is better. they even have an actual cabinet paint for spraying. much better than behr

If your Taj has a touch of warmth to it, I'd go w/Simply White or SW Pure White

they should be sprayed w/a paint designed for wood cabinets.

what kind of cabinets do you have that are being painted? any pics?

Find out exactly what their process is for prepping your cabs. In detail.

for instance, are they sanding, priming, sanding again before applying the paint?

how are they applying the paint?

what about your fixed base cabinets? hows that getting done?

is there a guarantee for chipping/peeling? what time period?

Are they removing the doors/drawers to spray at their warehouse or is everything done on site?

What price are they charging you?

need to see your flooring, the cab layout, the lighting and the actual taj slab. some taj slabs are warm, others are a cool gray.

Northern light can tend to be a bit cooler. it can also make a lot of whites look gray.

You can get away w/using a slightly warmer white in a northern exposure w/o it looking too warm.

ALWAYS get some samples, bring them home and paint them on some wood pieces (prime first) and see how they look in YOUR room w/your flooring. then see how they look next to the Taj slab

Thank you for all of that information. They do clean and spray the cabinets. The doors get taken out and the cabinets are sprayed on location. H e absolutely will use any paint I choose. The Taj slab is a warm slab (creamy beige, white, a little taupe, some gold veins). I don't have it installed yet so I can't send pics

I have Taj Mahal and my cabinets are BM Chantilly Lace. I tested several large samples of all the popular whites and the Chantilly lace was the only one that didn't turn dingy in my north facing FL kitchen.

There are a lot of white and off-white colors that can look good with Taj Mahal, so you need to test in your own space.

In my previous house I had stained cabinets but my windows trim was BM Simply White and it touched the Taj Mahal counters and that looked good too. That corner window faced south & west.

red flag #1, is them wanting you to pick the paint. huh? pro cab people have their own paint. All the customer needs to do is pick a color.

red flag #2, "They clean and spray the cabinets".

Not good enough. you need details. Ask them to explain to you EXACTLY what they do after they 'clean' the cabinets. Do they then apply the paint? if they say 'yes' to that, you're basically throwing away your money.

What are they charging you to paint? what size is your kitchen? (this is why I wanted a pic)

Are your paint guys professional cab painters or house painters.

Cleaning the cabinets means nothing. Are they wood?

You didn't answer my questions on how they prep.

You are in for big trouble if all they do is clean and spray.

what does the slab look like?

I'm a pro wood finisher and I've painted many wood pieces, including 3 entire oak cabinet kitchens.

The wood MUST be sanded. Every, single part of the wood must be sanded. Then cleaned. Then primed. Then sanded AGAIN. yes, the primer coat needs a fine sanding to be smooth enough to accept the finish coat.

if all they do is clean and then paint, you're going to get this.

Are they oak? is there a heavy grain? do you want that grain to show? if not, a grain filler needs to be used.
