How do I save my snake plant

Hi my name is tye I got this snake plant from my aunt in 2022 an wen I got it from her in was submerged in water in a gillion water container with three large leaves and one huge root since I've gotten it him has grown 🤔❤️😊 but know I'm afraid I'm not doing something right cause I've noticed a change recently in how his leaves are not spreading out like they you to please help with any ideas thankFrom a concerned plant mom

It looks absolutely fine. The leaves are meant to be upright, not 'spread'. Presumably the pot has a drainage hole?

i'm happy that you were able to free the snake neohippie, and i'm very glad to have the info- thanks! and just fyi (everyone); the very fine black bird netting will also trap snakes- they can't back out of it. i discovered a beautiful one hanging dead in my berry patch. -and it traps birds too, so check out the piles of netting you have in sheds and garages and put it in plastic bags. i found this out the sad way one summer long ago and have never used it since. min

See if your local nursery/hardware store has any fertilisers that are Iron based. The most used ones are Iron Chelate (rather expensive but reacts immediately in the soil), Iron Sulphate (which will take a bit of time to react in the soil to be available) available. The addition of Iron into the soil locks up Phosphorous and makes it unavailable to the plant roots. Iron Chelate would be the best in this situation if you can get it. It is sometimes used on Rhododendrons etc. so if you ring around you should be able to find some. Just water it on according to the directions. You may have to make a few applications of Iron Chelate over a few months.

What kind of water do you use? As its possible that there are high levels of contaminants in the water which can be bad for lucky bamboo and cause it to slowly decline over time.. However I have had my lucky bamboo lose a lower leaf or two due to not getting enough water as mine requires refilling every couple of days or it gets a little fussy.. Also you want tge roots to have room to grow and extend and keeping the stalks out of the humiditts inside of the jar is also a good idea.. You should fill the whole jar up to allow for more room for the roots to grow, and it would also allow for a bit of airflow to the roots. Hope this helps :)

This is a pot I got from the family dollar in the summer months of 23 because the first was the water jug it came in but it has no drainage hole in this pot I'ma buy a new bigger pot next week I read that you aren't sopose to water a lot I don't really know I'm a beginner at this I have also a wondering jew plant peice my aunt had given me and it's now sprouted to have three different pots full

When you get a new pot make sure it has a drainage hole. It doesn't need to be bigger than the one it's in. And yes, don't over water.

Sanseveria does not mind small pots. It actally helps them stand. Ive had one for 25 years (and split and propogated many times) and the plant sits one figers with away from the edge. They just dont care about all the extra space. You could get a smaller plastic growers pot to go inside this pot? It will have drainage holes and you can set it on top of two or three small plates or a handful of rocks and the overflow will be caught by the blue pot. It wont go all over your carpet and you wont have to use a catch plate. This pot essentially becomes your catch plate.

As for water, the water needs of a plant depends on how much sun they get, how much they transporate (let out of the leaves), how big they are, etc etc. Some plants can be soaked, some plants need less. My suggestion is to put it in a sink and water it until water comes out the bottom and dont water again until you can stick you finger all the way into the soil and pull it out dry. That length of time is dependent on your climate. I live in Albuquerque where its is 0-10% humidity most of the time and I haven't watered this plant in two months but its probably time. I have divided this plant over the years to give some to friends and kids and the cut off leafs that you see near the bottom is where I used the leaf to teach my girlscouts how to propogate it.
