Looking for a red rose red hybrid tea
Comments (37)I looked at Kardinal on an image search and some of them look red, but some look pink and some look more orange. I think the camera, the culture, and the lighting conditions influence the photographs so it's hard to tell which is really true red. I used to have an American beauty growing up, I thought it was really red, but now I read it's on the pink side. It was not a hybrid tea, it was more like a big huge bush with red roses on it. It's probably good to go to rose shows and nursery to see them in person before selection a color that is the red that you want....See Morepurple/red flexible rose for chainlink fence?
Comments (26)I am sorry for your loss of your dear pet cat, it is obvious how much you love her. As for roses, for a rich re-blooming purple rose, I think you could do no better than "Reine des Violettes" it is not like most H.P.s in that it's bloom size is smaller, c. 3 inches wide, and the bloom style shows a pertness that the larger blooming Hybrid Perpetual roses which produce large "cabbage" shaped roses, don't show. It is of a rich purple color with violet-red hues, the red shows more in weeks of warm weather. It is also fragrant and smooth stemmed. R. D.V. has smooth whippy canes that are easy to train on an arbor, or peg down to the ground so that the entire cane is wreathed with roses. Of all the Old Garden Rose classes H.P.s are among the easiest to train or peg, because many of them have pliable canes. In Northern California its' canes grow to be c. 6-7 feet long, and arch over near the top. I don't know your climate zone, but I'd expect it to grow to c. 5 feet tall in summer if you must hard prune in winter. It is also a graceful plant with pretty foliage. "Renae" is a pink rose with lilac shading and mostly thornless. The fragrance is alluring when it shows up in the right weather, it reminds me of a blend of floral scents with an end scent note of watermelon. It grows to be a short climber where I live, c. 6-7 feet tall. "Renae" has a growth habit and foliage which are similar to that of a Hybrid Musk. I grow 'Lavender Dream" and it is a big bushy branching plant that can be grown against a fence, but is not a true climber. In Northern California it grows to be c. 5' feet tall in summer, if hard pruned in winter. It is about 95 % pink and 5% lilac, here but in a cooler climate the lavender hue could be a bit stronger. Best wishes in choosing a memorial rose for your beloved kitty, Luxrosa....See Moregood purple/blue rose
Comments (12)Ebb Tide survives my zone 5a winter just fine. I don't winter protect, they die back to the ground but roar back every spring. My oldest is 3 years the youngest is new this year. They are scented but not strongly thou JBs love them. They get anywhere from six to four hours of morning to early afternoon sun. Their mostly purple fading to smokey purple this year ( it's been cooler this summer ). Flowers are smallish, last about four days but I don't like the bush. I hope it does better in a few years. The hotter the weather the redder the flower. Conversely, the cooler weather brings out more purple. It's colour is very much like The Prince. Duh, just saw disease resistance. If you live where blakspot is a problem Ebb Tide needs sprayed. I think all purple roses need sprayed here anyway. Munstead Wood claims to be heathy but it's crimson not purple. Please, if you find a purple rose with all those qualities don't keep it a secret. Good luck on your hunt....See MoreLooking for a deep, true red semi-miniature (no purple undertones)
Comments (10)Rob's Love Bite is an excellent red and a true mini. It also grows symmetrically. You should be able to get it from the Violet Barn or maybe from Lyndon Lyon's. If you are only going to buy one and want to get it right on the first shot, then this is a good choice. It is a bit on the dark side, the leaves are small, graceful, pointed and dark. It Also check some of the Mac's that Su and Karin mentioned. Just Jeff, is considered to be a true red. My research is probably out of date, as many more reds have come out since I first began researching the "perfect red." The Mac series are noted for reds and minis. You can find many of them on the Lyndon Lyon's website under minis and semi-minis. Violet Barn specializes in minis, so you might find some there, also. You are correct, 4Blossoms, there is no such thing as a true red like a rose. also unusual. As Lucky has pointed out, Optimara has a lot of different reds. Sometimes you can find them in retail stores. They have both true reds and wine reds. Now that this has been "read," I edited it because there are newer reds out there I have not tried yet!
