Do I have a design or code dilemma? Bathroom walls go up Tuesday...ack
Comments (7)Fred S, thank you. I will verify that and thank you for the snippet -- Architect did have these same dimensions but with a continuous wall vs. partial railing I added. Much appreciated! We may have to scrap the dumbwaiter per the requirements regarding the door and I am ok with that. That toilet will be a wall mount and I'm looking at TOTO which now has a standard 4x4 framing mount (vs. previous 6" wall framing requirement). I did play with an outswing door that could work with the 12' door opening, and aligning looks ok with the metal rail from stair landing to the bathroom wall. The intent was to create some privacy as you enter, but given it's a standard door, there would be a lock -- great input for things to think about. Very many thanks!...See MoreNeed help with wall paint color for honey maple stairs
Comments (10)Hi. On the second level of stairs, you have those three wall hangings. If you ran a blue tape paint line directly through the center square of all three wall ornaments you'd should have a profile approximate with the banister (thats what I thought at first. The wall color seems a good match right now for the banister hardware but if you need something easier on the eyes to transit the stairs, you could change the tone to the white of the lower wall. That large banana tree offers a chance to change white hue to something more white-green tint, or a very subtle aquamarine. Its a very blocky suggestion. I did this mod on ms paint so , just heads up. The black line indicates the high contrast change of paint tone. I made a gap for the plant but it should all be filled in behind it. I think the blue looks better with the plant and the wall than the green and then could be continued to the wall below it....See MoreUpdating staircase - stain color to go with floors/walls?
Comments (9)Your inspiration photo is handsome...but it has a much lighter floor and much lighter walls. And the light filled VAULT that highlights the wood is something you are missing. If you attempt a match like your the inspiration you are going to create a very dark looking space. The oak is very 'heavy'. That's a lot of trim that will be stained. And to get it to look good, you will have to go dark. Not medium....dark. Your floors are quite dark (we rank them as 'dark') which means your tone on tone match is going to be dark. Are you leaving the houses trim WHITE? I would keep the trim and the stringers white. I like the idea of the hand rail matching or being DARKER than the flooring. Your newel posts could be white - same as the trim. Or BLACK. Just be aware you have Red Oak. The red is going to be tough to get away from. You can use Jacobean to get rid of the red AND to darken the stain. But be careful with all the heavy trim work on the stairs. They are going to be powerful if you go dark. It will look very, very heavy....See MoreWhat colour to paint this loft stair wall
Comments (8)I think a rich dark blue would work great, especially if it was the backdrop to a gallery art collection. I suggest you get some paint samples and paint large pieces of paper and hang them on the wall for a few days to see what one you like the best. Alternately, a darker grey in the same tone as the rest of your walls would also work nicely for a feature wall. I'd sample each to be sure of what you like. Hope that helps!...See MoreKeri Kisiloski
