You can use a free photo hosting site like Webshots or Photobucket, and upload pictures there. Once a picture is uploaded, you can click on it to copy / paste the code needed to post it in a message. Comments (10)Hi. On the second level of stairs, you have those three wall hangings. If you ran a blue tape paint line directly through the center square of all three wall ornaments you'd should have a profile approximate with the banister (thats what I thought at first. The wall color seems a good match right now for the banister hardware but if you need something easier on the eyes to transit the stairs, you could change the tone to the white of the lower wall. That large banana tree offers a chance to change white hue to something more white-green tint, or a very subtle aquamarine. Its a very blocky suggestion. I did this mod on ms paint so , just heads up. The black line indicates the high contrast change of paint tone. I made a gap for the plant but it should all be filled in behind it. I think the blue looks better with the plant and the wall than the green and then could be continued to the wall below it....See MoreWhat color should we paint interior stairs and banister?
Comments (3)Please don’t paint the wood! Someone painted ours and it looks out of place and time. It would take years and more patience than I have to restore the original wood so I will live with it, but unhappily. Instead paint the white baseboard the same color as your stair treads. The white is too contemporary for your house and jumps out at my eyes as inappropriate. BM also has a Colonial Williamsburg color called mopboard black if you would prefer that. But no one in 1790 would have white baseboards because of the constant dirt that would be tracked into the house. My baseboard up the stairs is the same verdigris paint as the baseboard and chair rail in the entry to give continuation to the eye. Have you owned your house for a long time? We found it instructive to visit similar period homes, including Locust Grove in Louisville, Kentucky, Pleasant Hill Shaker village in Kentucky, and Adena in Chillicothe, Ohio. These homes were built about the same time as yours. If you are in New England, there are many homes open to the public that will have a similar time period. Search them out because the curators have spent years researching paints and wall coverings and flooring. We have found them to be generous with their advice. When this COVID is over, plan several day trips to research correct colors. The magazine Early American Life is a staple on my shelves. Comments (7)Or the rug selection can drive the furniture choice. I agree with Patricia, the stairwall isn't a good choice for an accent wall. I don't think this room needs an accent wall at all. You have a window wall and a wood ceiling. They don't need any competition. Once you have new furniture and art you will feel differently about the room. Anything that's new takes time to get used to. It looks like a beautiful house....See More- 2 years ago
