wishing you luck and a speedy recovery! i will echo what eld said, just rest and take it easy. you'll probably feel well enough in a few days to do things you shouldn't so, just don't! this is the voice of experience...too much, too soon will cause some big regrets.

i will also suggest that if they send you home with pain meds, take them on schedule to stay ahead of any discomfort and if they aren't helping, be sure to contact your surgeon!

Wishing you good luck. Take the pain pills. Rest and sleep. In a few days you should be fine.

You’ll be a little ouchy for awhile. Try sleeping propped up by a bunch of pillows to make sitting up easier.

If you take pain pills be sure to take metamucil and a stool softener first!

Snuggle up on the sofa with a comfy blanket and two cats.

Set up a big carafe of water and a glass or straw beside wherever you plan to rest after you get home. It is important to drink after the procedure, as soon as you are nausea free and awake enough, but you might not feel like getting up for it much.

The surgery should be 'the easy part'. Don't minimize the recovery though.

Be serious about taking the pain s prescribed. Start a laxative right away because opioids *will* cause constipation, and you don't need to be straining eliminate. (I use Miralax or drugstore knock-off -- proven more effective than 'softeners'.)

I doubt you will be going up and down stairs for a while. You don't want to stress your stomach muscles post-op. Get someone else to see to the cats. Aiding your own recovery is Job One right now.

glad everything went well!! hopefully, neighbor can run to the store for the laxative.

be extra careful if you shower. you won't realize how wobbly you can be for a day or two (i assume you were under general anesthesia?) and the last thing you want to do is fall!

Glad it went well...now all you have to do is heal!

Process for getting out of bed with less pain (than from a recliner): scoot yourself close to the edge of the bed, then roll onto your side facing the edge; bend your hips and knees into the "chair sit" position (your knees should now be beyond the bed edge); then let your lower legs drop as you push yourself up sideways to sit upright. This way you minimize the use of your abs to get upright.

I'm glad it went well, hope you have a quick and relatively painless recovery.

Uneventful is good! Baby yourself for a couple of days. Let your neighbor earn a gold star for picking up a laxative for you. Dulcolax has been too strong for me -- it's part of the colonoscopy prep. Miralax is gentle. It's tasteless, mixed with water.

Re the pain med, I think I follow my step-brother's advice, who has had this surgery and other surgeries. He said he prefers not to take the prescribed pain med and uses Tylenol exactly because of experience of constipation issues.

So I took a pain med at 3pm, then another just now at 9pm. Perhaps tomorrow I'll try the Tylenol and if I don't think its working all that great, switch back to pain med on Thursday. Hopefully after that I can wean myself off of either.

Interesting about the Dulcolax. You are right, I did take that for a colonoscopy prep in 2019. Will definitely keep that in mind!

Glad to see your reports. As far as pain meds and constipation, Colace was recommended to me by my surgeon. It's not a laxative, it's a stool softener, and is more gentle. I found it quite effective.

I'm glad you're doing so well! In a couple of day you will feel better than pre-surgery if yours had periods where it bulged out and hurt like mine did. The only way to feel better was to lay down flat which wasn't always possible. I made the 2 hour trip back from seeing my mother in her care facility more than one day with the passenger seat in DH's truck back and down as far as it would go and my feet on the dash 😒 Not really a typical position for a woman my age.

I had never in my life used ice for anything preferring heat for discomfort but found ice my best friend with that surgery. It was really helpful for post surgery pain, worked just about as well as the pain meds. Either way, don't let yourself be uncomfortable for too long, you will heal faster and do better if you are completely relaxed and resting well - please don't underestimate that. Best to you....

stagger/overlap your pills so you have continuous pain coverage, you don't want to have to wait for meds to kick in if you cough or sneeze ... ask me how I know
