I wouldn’t bother to update the handles. I agree with BeverlyFLADeziner to update when you can. I like your choice of bedcover. The teal art works great with the taupe floor. You just need a throw pillows that ties in the teal , oak and taupe tones. I’d replace the red throw with taupe to make the room more cohesive. A larger rug under the bed would be better suited for the size of the room. The small art on the right should be lowered a tad.

I would keep the current handles on the headboard cabinets. They blend in nicely. The headboard unit takes up a lot of visual space in the room and I would not do more to call attention to it with different handles.

I like the alternative bedding you posted. I'm a fan of a sea of neutrals and not in love with the teal. I think the new bedding you picked calms things down and make for a more seamless and soothing look.

Don't worry about your headboard being out of date. In another few years, it will be totally hip, and probably worth something. Besides, it is a perfect size for the room and looks very practical.

You are all so wonderful to give of your time. Will stay with handles. Do want to sell bedroom furniture but my husband for some reason is attached to it.

My stress level a five rather than a 10!

I buy a lot of bedding - have 2 dogs that sleep on the beds.

I bought 2 bedspreads from Macy's last year and they both fell apart the first time I washed them.

I don't buy really expensive bedding, but have had good results with J Queen New York and with coverlets from Cuddledown and with a Vera Bradley quilt I recently purchased.

I am wondering if you could cover the mirrors, either making them the same color as the walls or the same color as the bedspread.

It looks dated for me. I would get new headboard.

Her husband like the headboard and wants to keep it.

A larger rug that includes the warm tone of the wood would be lovely.

I don't think that it's bad - the golden oak color just doesn't blend with the rest of the room.

Wondering if it could be stained - like a dark cherry or ebony?

And maybe metal pulls like these?

You'd need to measure carefully to be sure they fit, of course.

Well my hubby does not get to decide about some things and honestly all the new hardware in the world will not help this . Lose it get a nice headboard and some night tables that at least have a connection to this century .

• We had a similar headboard; purchased in 1986. Really dates your room. If you are the one making the decorating decisions and doing all the work, why leave the biggest decision of all - the elephant in the room - to your husband? I'm sure he makes decisions he does not have to have your approval for? Sometimes when my husband does this it's not that he loves the item in question bt that he doesn't want to do the work of removing the old and assembling the new. If thats the case; hire some teenage boys and get 'er done! We now have a navy blue tufted headboard and it looks much better; really updates the room. Less than $200.00 from Wayfair so you don't need deep pockets. Be assertive; lose the headboard!

I support you keeping the bed if both you and your husband want it. Who cares if it’s dated? If it’s in good shape, keep it. It looks useful and the room is big enough. Heck, I’m looking at buying a house and I’d take 40 year old original features over any cheapo, common updates anyway. However, personally I don’t care for the gray in your last pic. I am just so tired of grey everything. I like all the teal. And I like ffpalms ideas on rugs.
