Candle wax on the tablecloth

Finally got to the tablecloth son put on the table for Christmas. The candles he selected and lit dribbled onto the cloth as we chatted. i left the cloth on the table so the wax would harden. Today I finally got to the task. After gently pulling off any blobs of dry wax, i draped the stained area over the kitchen sink and poured a steady stream of boiling water over any stains or spots. Voila!

You get what you pay for as far as candles are concerned. The quality of wax, jar, and wick varies. Longevity of use is related to quality (price) and proper usage. Very inexpensive candles are scented by putting a perfume on top after the candle is made. High quality candles are scented throughout the wax with wicks that are tested to be the proper size for the container. They are not made in China. The amount of scent a candle can produce is a product of the surface area of the melted wax, and the amount of scent within the wax. In regard to keeping old wax, I say absolutely! In addition to using it to make your own candles, sachets, and melts, you can add small chunks to other candles. I prefer to do this after it starts to cool off and shrink. Just push new chunks of wax in the soft candle to offset the shrinkage and it will all melt together next time you light it.

Those scent cubes are just wax, scent & color. If I am to assume that the scent is used up, it's just wax & color, so I think it would be OK.

We use 8%, which seems pretty great with Fragrance oils. Now, with essential oils, If you got to something like 30%, you will be both dilluting the wax (so it wont burn well) and also spending a boatload on the oils. The tricky thing is, essential oils vary so much for their own throw, so 8% of one might be great and 8% of another might not do anything. Its all about experimentation, we are trying new things all the time. Connect with your inner mad scientist!!

And here I thought you should freeze the cloth, then scrape. Maybe this depends on the composition of the candles? I think beeswax candles are not supposed to drip.

If you chill the wax, I think it's easier to scrape more of it off before the boiling water treatment.

I'll have to keep that tick in mind.

We light candles every night - some brands produce a lot of melted wax, others don't. I've been using Northern Lights candles for a few years and they seem to burn without too many drips. But I also use candle followers and bobeches when I use a tablecloth for added protection.
