wall decor ideas?
We love our sectional, ottoman, rug, and two recliners but are struggling with decor for our walls. The large wall behind the sectional- something large or a bunch of smaller pieces? Anything on the other walls. We love the space but it looks unfinished.
We have 3 shadowboxes that store mementos from when our children were younger between the two windows but these can be moved to another room. The walls that have pocket doors have very shallow depth for anything hanging as the doors fit into those walls when tucked away. (I can’t anchor anything heavy on those.)
We have gallery walls in other sections of our home so I could do another or do for something different. Just at a loss for ideas. We do collect artwork from places we travel. What sizes works do you see on these walls?

11 months agolast modified: 11 months agoThe shadowboxes are awesome. The shapes replicate the transom window panes so that was a great decision. Have you ever thought of color on one wall?
BTW, you need a big coffee table for people to set down drinks.

For whatever it's worth, I'm of the firm opinion that artwork should be chosen on the basis of what you love and enjoy looking at day in and day out. I think art should speak to you on a level that goes deeper than "ust something that matches the rest of the room" (not that that's what you said, but making my point). Maybe you aren't feeling the current artwork because it doesn't speak to you in any way? Here is what I recommend: In either case -larger rug -colors are not working together. There are too many woods (front door, dining set, coffee table, floor, wine bar competing with each other. Colors: blue, grey But, maybe you are just getting started. -move wine bar to another area where it can be highlighted as a wine bar. (never angle a squared off piece of furniture in a corner. Never looks good.) -simple drapes for dining a living windows. -lower tv -decor should be simple, especially around the tv. Option 1 1) Move tv to the dining room wall (if space allows). Likely, there would be no console in this scenario. 2) Move sectional to tv wall 3) Move wine bar to another room (dining room?) Option 2 1) Leave sectional where it is, but move it slightly closer to the window wall. 2) Place a chair on right side of tv 3) Console needs to be 1 1/3- 1 1/2 longer than tv. Your current console is too short. Think about whether you want to buy a console that ties you into a certain color. Rather, buy pillows and accessories to decorate. Comments (12)Paul, height is the issue there. they don't want toddlers to climb up and over. but yes, it is a common design element. It's hard for a kid to climb up on a railing, but this would be simple enough to do that's why I asked about code in their area. each city is diff. Not a big deal in my house because there are no kids around. But if the neighbor kid came over to play here, jumped on the cabinet and went over the top, you best believe their homeowners is going to get used! 100%. instead of that cabinet, I'd do more of a built-in look like this. 11 months agoI would try placing the long side of the sectional with the back in EITHER of the door openings with a sofa table behind for interest from adjoining room.
This appears to be a TV viewing hangout space, so make it cozy and close. Maybe consider the TV on that larger span of wall... I agree with the Navy wall ^

11 months agolast modified: 11 months agoYou have a great start, you just need some finishing touches. Definitely add some lamps. Different levels of lighting warm up a room and the lamp shapes will be a nice contrast to all the horizontal and vertical lines.
Wall decor doesn't have to be art. You can use textiles, murals, maps of place you love, antique signs that have meaning to you (not fake ones from Home Goods), etc.
Go big, lots of small items together often end up looking like visual clutter.

PRO11 months agoMove the sectional away from the draperies and the recliner out from the corner. The room needs some floor lamps and a larger ottoman or coffee table.

Seems you already a few gallery walls so it might be nice to do simply a large canvas above your sectional. Then accessorize the room..
It's difficult to judge from your photos but if you can, move your TV screen and console flat against the wall instead of at an angle.

I also think you need a larger ottoman for a coffee table. diff light/pillows too

agree about moving the sofa off the wall onto the rug. just leave about 6"-12" behind the sofa.If you like, you could do a very thin sofa table

11 months agoMake sure the rug is dead center in the room. Pull out the sectional and position it so that the sofa part is in the middle of the wall.
Just as in this photo you have three cushions and then the corner piece. Place art over each of the three cushions. You can fill in that corner with a floor plant or a floor lamp.

If you used one panel on each window, would there be enough room to put the t v on that wall? It would free up that corner.
