wall decor ideas?
We love our sectional, ottoman, rug, and two recliners but are struggling with decor for our walls. The large wall behind the sectional- something large or a bunch of smaller pieces? Anything on the other walls. We love the space but it looks unfinished.
We have 3 shadowboxes that store mementos from when our children were younger between the two windows but these can be moved to another room. The walls that have pocket doors have very shallow depth for anything hanging as the doors fit into those walls when tucked away. (I can’t anchor anything heavy on those.)
We have gallery walls in other sections of our home so I could do another or do for something different. Just at a loss for ideas. We do collect artwork from places we travel. What sizes works do you see on these walls?

3 months agolast modified: 3 months agoThe shadowboxes are awesome. The shapes replicate the transom window panes so that was a great decision. Have you ever thought of color on one wall?
BTW, you need a big coffee table for people to set down drinks.

Comments (5)HI -- I do not like houses that have these large open useless spaces . This is always a problem for noise and how to paint them and how to decorate . You would have to hire painters and the use of scaffolding and the high cost to do so and to maintain. That wasted square footage could be better used in the upstairs living areas . You could have some applied moldings in a square pattern or wallpaper for interest , or quilted fabric panels but some does not help with the sound . Tapestries or rugs or soft wall hangings helps a bit... as for a large painting that can be home made or the affect done with a wallpaper mural or a hired Artist . Comments (4)I am assuming your podcast will be video'd, so people will see your studio. The first thing I would do is get rid of the coffee table, it is totally lacking in style. I am not sure about the ottoman either. While it is nice, it is for a residential space, and in addition, the color doesn't relate to chairs, and as this is not a home, you don't have the opportunity to bring in other things to allow the blue to connect with the yellow. Under the window get a glass console table, perhaps with a shelf on which to place the products that you will discuss during your podcast. In addition, get a coffee table, perhaps a round one, on which you and your guest can place a cup and the products you are discussing. I am not thrilled with that metal window covering. Perhaps you can cover it with something? On the walls you could project photos of people carrying the products you are discussing. Or something similar. 3 months agoI would try placing the long side of the sectional with the back in EITHER of the door openings with a sofa table behind for interest from adjoining room.
This appears to be a TV viewing hangout space, so make it cozy and close. Maybe consider the TV on that larger span of wall... I agree with the Navy wall ^

3 months agolast modified: 3 months agoYou have a great start, you just need some finishing touches. Definitely add some lamps. Different levels of lighting warm up a room and the lamp shapes will be a nice contrast to all the horizontal and vertical lines.
Wall decor doesn't have to be art. You can use textiles, murals, maps of place you love, antique signs that have meaning to you (not fake ones from Home Goods), etc.
Go big, lots of small items together often end up looking like visual clutter.

3 months agoMove the sectional away from the draperies and the recliner out from the corner. The room needs some floor lamps and a larger ottoman or coffee table.

It's difficult to judge from your photos but if you can, move your TV screen and console flat against the wall instead of at an angle.

Or maybe move the TV trays and put the tv on that wall? hard to tell from the photos.
I like Celerys rendition w/the gallery wall and Pauls dark blue accent color.
I also think you need a larger ottoman for a coffee table. diff light/pillows too

agree about moving the sofa off the wall onto the rug. just leave about 6"-12" behind the sofa.If you like, you could do a very thin sofa table

3 months agoMake sure the rug is dead center in the room. Pull out the sectional and position it so that the sofa part is in the middle of the wall.
Just as in this photo you have three cushions and then the corner piece. Place art over each of the three cushions. You can fill in that corner with a floor plant or a floor lamp.
