Comments (24)There are a few advantages to growing in containers. We too had a drought during the last half of the season. However the daylilies seemed unaffected ( unlike the gardener who was seen lugging the hose around to each pot at least once (sometimes twice) every day).......Nan: I could see Chitty Chitty Fang Fang in my collection of yellows. A pretty shade of yellow...Kate: So glad you feel up to posting a few. I like your Cloud of Witnessess by Emmerich and both you and Mantis have one I've considered off and on over the years in Creature of The Night. I have heard elsewhere though that the scapes aren't the strongest out there........Debra: Clarification looks so very tempting. Does the base color fade out or is it the pale lavender that shows in your pictures....Brad: We are all agreed I think on your Carmen Renee, but I also like Chance Encounter. I bet Stamile's do well for you in your zone. Christopher Russell looks good too......David: I'm not much on whites or the daylily equivalent of white, but I've always liked your Caribbean Whipped Cream. It's on my "if I had room" list......Mantis: for me the 2 standouts today are Crystal Castles and In Living Color. Considering your comment about Hanson generalizing about dor vs sev now days, I can give more consideration to nice ones like this....Maryl...See MoreHealthy Lifestyle Progress - Week of 1/7/2024
Comments (14)I read these weekly, and always mean to write earlier in the week. But something causes me to wait until later. I've picked up weight training again these past few weeks, and my body feels sore and good! I've listened to a few podcasts about longevity lately, and, like Gscience's article, there is no doubt that strength training is essential. One longevity expert/researcher even cited a study where, out of all the exercise options, strength training was shown to better reduce cancer. Don't ask me to cite it... it's long buried in my list of podcasts. But it's part of the overall and very clear message that we need to maintain muscle as we age. Saying that, my shoulders and arms are especially sore because I shoveled snow twice yesterday (the heavy "heart attack" snow), and I have to shovel one more time today before temps drop. My driveway and sidewalk are not long, but just long enough that it's a physical challenge. And I remind myself how fortunate I am to be able to manage this on my own. Food-wise, I'm doing ok, but have had a few extra sweets that I don't normally have, thanks to DS's late-night trip for ice cream. But I haven't eaten out since the holidays, and so lots of homemade food. Yesterday, I made a cauliflower lentil curry soup that was filling and delicious. I agree, Funky--this is soup weather. I enjoy the process of making soup, and especially vegetable based so I can use whatever I have on hand. Sue's chili sounds like my next one....See Moreupdates on resolutions?
Comments (5)New Years never, ever works out for me. This year was no exception, though I'll admit I barely tried. I've posted this before and I'll surely post this again, but Lent is my best bet. While I may bring some spirituality into it, it's not really a religious thing for me. It's the structure: A defined start with a defined goal and end point. That helps make initial goals less daunting. What I hope for during this time is a change in habits and routines, and a feeling of well-being that carries me well past Easter, hopefully permanently. It took a few year of trying, but I made one of the most monumental changes to my life this way....See Morenannykins
