Air Fryer, Nuwave, or Convection Oven
Comments (6)This past thread might help: http://ths.gardenweb.com/discussions/3854444/air-fryers-any-thoughts?n=17 For reducing your fat intake, however, you might look for alternative things you'd like to eat that are cooked by a different method, however. You can make crisped up vegetables and potatoes by tossing in a little good oil and seasoning/herbs/spices and laying them out on a baking sheet and putting them in any good oven at 375-425° F, depending on the oven and type/thickness/density, for 40-75 minutes, depending on all the previous. If you like battered or breaded fried meats, when they're well prepared, they actually steam in their own moisture, which is held in by the coating. You can get a fairly similar result if you spray the outside with oil and put in the oven, but you can also get rid of the coating by using moist cooking methods such as steaming and braising. Good luck....See MoreAppliance advice for new large kitchen
Comments (8)My steam range is waiting to be installed, so can't provide much feedback, but the showroom had it hooked up and functional as their demo and I was impressed enough to drop around 15k on it... I'd rethink the 4 oven setup. You could do a turkey breast in the steam oven rather than two full turkeys for thanksgiving. The small oven can fit a small whole turkey (12-14lbs or so). I cooked for 26 this year with my double oven standard sized 30" range + a counter toaster/convection oven + air fryer. Wasn't too bad even with that setup, would have been a piece cake with the new setup. Other options might be 36" range with a single oven instead of the 48." You lose 2 burners (or the griddle/grill) on the range though. rangetop + wall ovens keep the wall oven, but get a regular MW instead of SO...See MoreCombo Convection/Microwave can it replace Toaster Oven & Air Fryer?
Comments (14)@Fun2BHere - Thank you! How long does it take for your CMW to get to cooking temperature? I think that is my big question. The toaster oven and air fryer being small appliances are almost instantaneous, so you're just dealing with the cooking time not preheat time. Does the CMW preheat fast enough to be "convenient"? Last night it was just the kids and me, so I pulled out the air fryer and cooked some frozen hamburger patties, it was 14 minutes from the time I decided to cook them to eating. No idea how long they'd take in the oven, I've only cooked fresh homemade (much thicker) burgers in that and they take at least 25 minutes after the oven preheats which I'd be lucky to have happen in 14 minutes. @plllog true, you know I never have tried pizza in my Air Fryer, it would probably work fine. I'll try it next time! I keep it in the pantry so it needs pulled out to use, and its round, which I find awkward for things. It was a gift and quite nice but not what I would have chosen. I am trying to get the toaster oven off the counter, but it would also be nice to open space in my pantry too and if I decide the CMW won't work this is the best alternative suggestion. @User thank you for the suggestion! I'll look into those and check out their sizes. In my search I have been leaning towards models that have racks inside. I feel like being able to have food suspended probably helps cook it better....See MoreFirst ever microwave drawer with convection oven
Comments (67)I just finished a new home build and also installed a Sharp drawer convection microwave SMD2499FS. I noticed that anything I heated in there never became very hot. Fast forward to trying to make my grandkids hamburgers. Didn’t want to wait for the charcoal grill to heat up so I tried the convection grill function on my Sharp. Followed the directions in the book exactly. Preheat the ceramic cook/drip tray, cook etc. while the burgers came out pretty good, upon cleaning the cook tray I noticed two diagonal cracks in the ceramic. I thought perhaps it was crazing but when I turned it over the cracks went straight through to the other side. The pan did not come apart, but it was concerning to me that this cracked during cooking. I called the customer service number and was told that although my microwave is under warranty for parts and labor, this tray is not considered a part. No one seems to know where I can order a new one, including the high-end appliance store, where I purchased my appliances for my new home. There’s no information on Sharps website for replacement pieces or accessories. I asked to speak with a supervisor when I was on the phone with CS and of course the supervisor was busy, I really wish I read the reviews before I ordered this. I really feel like I made a very expensive mistake. That being said, for those of you who use the convection portion of this microwave, can you use metal pans? I’m trying to think of what else I can use for convection cooking. Stoneware? Pyrex? I saw metal pans on a video. I also read that there’s a lot of sparking and potential fires in this, so I am concerned about using any metal in the microwave other than those racks that come with it. I’m feeling taken advantage of here. This company has the worst customer service....See Morewdccruise
