what type of wall decor on a very tall wall in family room

I have a very tall wall in my family room and need a big piece of art or some other way to make the wall not look so blank. We just painted the family room Dove Wing white to brighten it up but now the wall looks REALLy blank.

Yes - post images - include various angles of the room so we can see your furnishings, carpet, draperies, etc. All those things will influence responses...

I have a tall wall (10ft) that was 22 ft wide and very boring! You could tile the wall to the ceiling, where your TV and fireplace are, and make that a focal wall. My living room is also small.(12' x 22') I added switch on the side for potlights/dimmer. Here's pics of mine....It definitely catches all eyes, and I always get compliments. Also, I'd like to add, I have many mirrors and NONE reflect my ceiling, (as another poster commented) except for my mirrored coffee table! Mirrors on walls always create illusion of larger space!

Thank you everyone for your suggestions! I've considered closing the niche above the fireplace, but that will leave only 6" on the mantle which isn't much space for decor. I agree that it would allow more options for art up above. I do have a large chest to the left of the fireplace right now. The trouble with that is there is little space for traffic between it and the end of the sectional. If I shift it left, it looks off balance and is facing a direct walking path. And I don't really want to rotate the sectional against the windows although that would improve the narrow traffic problem. All the above pics were taken after the wood floor was refinished, but before I put any accessories, decor, etc. back up. I wanted to show a "blank slate". (I am working on getting an area rug) If I stick with everyone's suggestions, my next questions are: How high up should I try to decorate the fireplace niche? And should I do anything behind the tv? I've had nothing there and it looks blank, and I've put up a very large piece of art and it looks too busy. It seems like there are too many focal points. Here are some pics that show earlier attempts at decorating. The silver vase with floral is probably close to 48" high. Please ignore the floral behind the tv, that is not normally there. Pic #1 was right before they moved the furniture out for the flooring, so all my extras were already in storage.

Repose walls and white cabinets will look great. So will the espresso. That is very dark brown, like coffee, right? I love picture frames that are simple flat panel espresso colored/stained wood where you can see the wood grain but they look like wonderful dark coffee and they are a good two inches wide on a big poster. (Yikes, I always see things in terms of food, granite counters look like vanilla fudge, or jamoca almond fudge ice cream, or nougat candy. I really couldn't do that, I'd be running to the store all the time!) There is a frequent commenter here, Anglophilia who used I think repose grey on her walls and white on her cabinets, or was it white on her walls and repose grey on her cabinets? I can't remember! Why not invite her on this thread and ask her. Remove all the pieces on that wall. They are undersized, and it would look better empty. You can use very large pieces of art, like large framed posters, or paint a simple graphic design on the wall. Then think about how that space can be functional. Can you angle the sectional to open up the room a bit more? Maybe the side area can be used for a large table and chairs for games/crafts, or a foosball or air hockey table? Or a grouping of four armchairs around a coffee table in that corner.

It will take a bit of math, but you want the correct size for the wall.

If you’re choosing wall art for a predominantly empty wall, your wall art should take up about 60% to 75% of the available empty wall space (the portion not covered by moldings or furniture). The first step is to measure the height and width of the wall. Next, multiply the measurements by both 0.6 and 0.75. As a result, you will get the best range of canvas print sizes to suit your unique space.

if your blank wall is 9 feet tall and 5 feet wide, multiply 9 by 0.6 to get the low end of the ideal height range. Then, multiply 9 by 0.75 to get the high end of the ideal height range. Do the same for your wall's 5 feet width. The ideal height of the canvas would be 5.4 - 6.75 and the ideal width would be 3 feet - 3.75 feet.

Dove Wing loves green...so a properly sized landscape would work.

One may look a bit lonely but if you add a battery powered picture light over it...maybe a floating shelf under it (wider than the art), I think it would work well.

Look around your house. What has life already given you that would be amazing to display on that wall? Family pictures? Kids' drawings? Kimono from a foreign vacation? Gorgeous vase on a wall shelf? Family heirlooms? Don't just buy some lame artwork to fill up space.
