Comments (16)Center the rug with the fireplace. Take the bookcase out of the left corner of the room and put that in the space between the kitchen and FR, where the console table now sits. Move the sectional down toward the fireplace, (after centering the rug), add an end table to the outside of the chaise part of the sectional. Someone sitting there wonâÂÂt want to move to get a drink off the coffee table. Be sure there is a lamp there as well, to light that corner of the room. Move the armoire to angle in the corner where the sectional was sitting originally. Use it for storage, perhaps add shelving or even a pull-out shelf for a computer center which can be closed up and put away. The piece is very nice, and gives good height to balance the fireplace and high ceilings. For now, try the console on the wall to the right of the fireplace, and place the new flatscreen on that. Later you may prefer a more substanial cabinet, which can hide other components and store DVDs, etc. If you do that, then try the console table behind the part of the sectional that has its back to the kitchen. Add a comfy upholstered chair in the corner, a bit closer to the fireplace, where the armoire was, along with another small side table and lamp....See MoreNeed help decorating/furnishing family room
Comments (6)Would you have it in your budget to hire a professional to come up with optional layouts and furniture suggestions. If not, you should work with an online room planner and really consider your family's needs and a few seating/working areas. The paint color can really be the last things to consider, based on what you have selected in terms of art, drapery, couch, etc. and I would paint the trim at the same time as you are doing the walls. Look at inspiration pictures to help (not necessarily with layout but seating options, accessories, bookcases, desk/office needs, color combinations) and based on your taste for modern farmhouse, you may want to check Joanna Gaines' site for inspirations. This is a huge undertaking and will take lots of planning. In regards to your kitchen, changes really depends on your budget. http://www.hgtv.com/shows/fixer-upper/photos...See MoreNeed help decorating my family room
Comments (19)I would suggest a slightly larger glass and metal rectangular coffee table to give this room more sophistication and lightness. There is some blue in the painting and I'd use that, rather than the orange for pillows on the furniture. You can also use blue and white since you have a white area rug. You have a gorgeous kitchen and dining area. Take all the pictures and clutter off the TV console and around the bottom of the fireplace. Have just a very few well-thought-out pieces on the mantel under the picture, nothing else. You do need a much larger console for the TV, but please don't use that area for family photographs. You could have a small table next to the chair by the window after you've cleaned up that area, and a have a few photos there in silver-colored frames, not wood. I see TV wires hanging down and that needs to be fixed. Unless you need the privacy and light control I'm not sure I would cover up these windows....See MoreRedoing family room, need help with decor, colors. Brown leather couch
Comments (9)Really nice room. Looks comfortable and inviting. Good choice w/new sofas. Like the fireplace as is ... but less clutter could improve the look of it. Not sure what the picture is above the piano. If it is a family photograph, reframe it and the family photo on the mantel with the same frames and put both above the piano. Really like your coffee table. One day it will be a valuable antique if you don't booger it up. So, for the coffee table, consider taking the table to a glass company and having a dark gray tinted thick glass top created for it -- no refinish for the table necessary. (Alternately, cover everything but the top and paint the top only -- perhaps black or else the same white as your cabinets.) Do the same for your current end table as you do for the coffee table. If you're going to add a second end table, since matching the existing one would likely prove difficult, consider a totally different look -- perhaps a wood 2-drawer filing cabinet? http://realsolidoak.com/office.html...See MoreSona P
