The tree may have won, some alternative ideas.
Comments (9)Options: 1.) Shop Vac Might actually work. The fact it would suck up leaves would be a feature, not a bug. Or you could soak the leaves with a hose so they stick together. Sucking up mulch would be a problem. 2.) You could put down a hard surface that would make it easier to sweep up the acorns. Asphalt would probably be a bad idea. There is a kind of bluestone gravel paving where the gravel sticks to a layer of oil and forms a hard surface that resembles concrete. Not really good for the oak, but not as bad as asphalt. 3.) You could plant something that grows so dense and vigorously it smothers the oak seedlings. Might also not be good for the oak. A sufficiently tall shrub would be too tall to let the saplings reach the sun before they used up their stored energy. Virginia Rose? 4.) You could plant grass and just mow it. 5.) You could plant all Spring ephemeral and perennial herbs that die back in the winter, so they wouldn't care as much if they were weed-wacked or covered with a tarp in the Fall. Comments (25)Loved the story about your Mom. I can just picture her 'hunting' those dishes down. What a treasure of a memory too. I can relate to your Mom scouring the Thrift Shops, before it was the thing to do..I even laughed, cause I can remember my Mom doing the same thing..in the 60's. I was so shocked and kind of humliated (naive) when she brought 'her treasures' home. Then, one day, shortly after I was married, she showed me two Pressed Back chairs, some Blue Willow dishes and a McCoy Indian Head Cookie Jar (which we didn't realize its value one day) that she 'found'! That was it...I told her to take me along so I could find these things too....and so, the begining of MY addiction for old things..especially Blue & White China and Ironstone....With endless trips to the Salvation Army (Sally's Ally) filled with wonderful dishes and glassware..Tag Sales and Thrift Shops..Estate Sales and Auctions...I quiver as I write! I agree, as long as we're not hurting anybody with our 'habit' >>> :) > I say go for it! jane...See MoreDo you believe some houses have bad energy?
Comments (349)It's been a year since we moved into our house, and I do believe that there was bad energy in it at the beginning. After I posted here, I read more and decided to do some things to turn the energy around and it seems it worked! I think a big part of it was just working on my inner energy and bringing this up with my partner. He's not the type of person who would believe in bad energy and haunted places, but he agreed that something was off here and that we should try to do something about it. It can't hurt, right? I cleaned the whole house very thoroughly, and while I was doing it, I was repeating my intentions and good thoughts about the house and the life we want to build here. I also repainted some walls and added a few details that bring good memories. Then I bought sage and went through all rooms and corners to clear the air. It also helped when I added a few green plants that should clear the air. I think that adding something alive to the space helps, too. This was a newly built house and I don't think it was as bad as it could be with the houses that are here for generations and accumulating a lot of energy (good and bad), so that's why I think these small things we did, helped us to live happier here. I started to believe that places have energy when I was driving through Poland a few years ago and not even knowing where exactly I was, I started to feel that something is wrong and dangerous. We were actually passing by Auschwitz which we realized after a few minutes of that "feeling"... Maybe I'm the one who's more sensitive to this, but I believe that we all have some sort of antenna for these kinds of things, someone recognizes it, someone denies it....See MoreUp cycle some roofing to the bath? Good or Bad?
Comments (23)Well, here's what I think: I think from a structural standpoint it's a disaster. From the tub not having flanges, to the greenboard, to the complete inability to waterproof it - it's a disaster. You don't have even a clue about construction - and that's has to be the foundation for any creative use of materials. This entire enclosure will mold and rot. From a design and architecture standpoint it's hideous and demonstrates a total lack of fundamental design. This is like when when kids "cook" by just randomly dumping things together in a bowl and mixing them up - without any understanding of basic cooking. From a functional standpoint it's terrible. It can't be cleaned and the mold and rot will stink in no time....See MoreDC Reno
