Wow.. you did gooodd girl ! Our thrift stores here won't let you make an offer on something that dosen't have a price on it. They tell you they can't sell it without the price. That really stinks !

I bought 4 of the British Castle salad plates today..2.99 in HG...they had the cereal/soups, but I passed. I want to see if something else I have will work...no more room for all these goodies!

Thanks Gail...usually when I see these dishes they are so much more. I've never had the opportunity to see them in HG. So I was so happy to find these.
As far as the next Gift Occasion, my Birthday is right around the corner...But honestly..it just kills me to have to get another camera, as this one is only a year old. I feel like such a huge 'Clutz'.

Susan...I've gone into some shops that won't bargain..and then there are some who will accept offers. I guess it's 'hit or miss'. But it's still worth a try, to make an offer. I usually ask if it's their 'Best' price, and go from there.

kathleen.. They are 'Blarney Castle' and have the crown on the back. As you know, they are so much more beautiful in person. I mentioned to Gail, I've never seen them in HG.. so you are lucky to have that opportunity to add to your set if you choose. I just love the shape of the Square Cereal and Veg Bowl..

As far as my camera...it was so frustrating trying to take these pics with such limited focus, as you can see.

check with the mfr of the camera...maybe they can replace the lens only. Or check a camera shop to see what their thought is.

Jane, you lucky girl! I can't believe you found those at at TS. You got allot of pieces, comes to less than $1.00 each and we all know those plates sell for much higher than that! You do beautiful tables, will look forward to seeing these on one of your creations. ;o)

Oh my goodness, what a great price on those, Jane! I'm so sorry about your camera, though. I need to start actually going to the thrift stores around here more often. The treasures you all find there are amazing!

Great find. I am sorry about your camera. I dropped my first digital and fortunately only cracked the view screen and it was an inside crack so that it wasn't even rough. I still use it sometimes even though it is ancient. It is small and slides down in my purse for when I am shopping and want pics. It is only something like 3 megapixel, but that works great for posting pictures and I don't have to worry about losing or dropping it.

Sorry to hear about your camera! Electronics just keep getting better and cheaper though so you might find a good deal on a new camera too. But, like Luvs said, I will take the fuzzy pics anyday to no pics. :)

Hello. I usually lurk here but absolutely love this forum. I am a dishaholic and so enjoy seeing all your beautiful table settings. I just have to ask- - what is HB? I just can't figure out what it is and it is driving me crazy (actually just a short putt). I love going to thrift stores although we don't have many in my area. When I get together with my sister who lives in Lancaster Co. Pa we spend days and days thrifting. It is heaven to me.

I love thrift stores too and always find myself having to stop in just to take a 'peek', whenever I pass one! Never know what might pass you by.
Now, as far as HB...I'm thinking you mean HG...is that correct? CAuse, HG is - Home Goods Store. They have lots and lots of great things for the home..especially dishes and glasses and linens.

Well, of course its Home Goods and I love that store! Jane, thank you for the welcome and maybe I'll come out of lurkdom and play. I love love dishes but haven't done much with tablescapes. I guess it is time I tried my hand. I have my daughter's 20th birthday coming up soon and am doing a brunch so that will be a good time to start. Also Im doing a family dinner March 22 and will do a St. Patricks day theme. Oh, this is so much fun.! Satine

Thanks to all for the wonderful welcome. I don't need any encouragement as far as looking at dishes goes. I have so many sets both large and small. I buy at thrift stores, yard sales etc and many times just partial sets. If I like it I buy it. I have run out of space in my kitchen and so many of my dishes are in the basement where it is a little harder to get to them. I am finding myself being drawn to table linens because I love them and they are easier to store than dishes. In fact, I think my love for linens is close behind my love for dishes. Oh, Im such an addict and I know I'll get no help kicking the habit here! Satine

Jane, I don't think you understand. Im way way past a 12 step program helping me. I am hopelessly addicted forever and ever. I think it started with my Mom who used to scour the thrift shops before it was the thing to do. When my sister got married some 46 or so years ago my Mom found all the plates for the at home reception. No body had much money and couldn't afford caterers etc so all the cooking was done by friends and a few ladies hired to keep trays filled and clean up afterward. Every dish (probably more than 100) had a floral pattern and each centerpiece was fresh flowers in a floral sugar bowl. From that time on(I was about 15) I have been hooked.
I have just decided that since I don't drink, smoke, beat my kids I'll accept being a dishaholic as my vice. I can't wait to learn to post pictures. It will be great to get feedback from the pros. Satine

Loved the story about your Mom. I can just picture her 'hunting' those dishes down. What a treasure of a memory too. I can relate to your Mom scouring the Thrift Shops, before it was the thing to do..I even laughed, cause I can remember my Mom doing the same thing..in the 60's. I was so shocked and kind of humliated (naive) when she brought 'her treasures' home. Then, one day, shortly after I was married, she showed me two Pressed Back chairs,some Blue Willow dishes and a McCoy Indian Head Cookie Jar (which we didn't realize its value one day) that she 'found'! That was it...I told her to take me along so I could find these things too....and so, the begining of MY addiction for old things..especially Blue & White China and Ironstone....With endless trips to the Salvation Army (Sally's Ally) filled with wonderful dishes and glassware..Tag Sales and Thrift Shops..Estate Sales and Auctions...I quiver as I write!
I agree, as long as we're not hurting anybody with our 'habit' >>> :) > I say go for it!

Jane, I'm a clutz too, always have been & dropped my last camera. I think it was my 4th one!!!!!

Finally, dh told me to look into refurbished ones. Said they are a lot cheaper & they usually work fine since they have been sent back & gone over with a fine tooth comb, so to speak.

I ordered a refurbished one online one third the price of the same new one & it's been working fine for over a year now.

With my clutziness, I just can't see paying full price for electronic items, we just don't seem to get along & that includes cell phones!! Been thru 3 of them in the last year too!!!
