vacation some good and some bad

On the thirteenth we went to Holland MI. It was so wonderful to see our DD and her family. On the sixteenth we left for Indianapolis. We went to the Zoo which we really enjoyed. The next day we went to the childrens museum that we really liked. Then before we left on the next day we went to the Firemans Museum. That was a joke. There isn't much there and noone to talk to us. We thought Dh would like it and he was disappointed.
We went back to Holland for the night and then we went up to Traverse City. All we did the first night was walk around down town. I liked that though it had some nice shops. The next morning we went up to the Mackinaw bridge. We didn't go across it though because there was construction on it. We took a ferry over to the Island. It was so nice and peaceful there.
When we got back to Holland on Friday I baked 2 rhubarb pies, 2 strawberry rhubarb pies, a small strawberry rhubarb crunch and a large rhubarb crunch for them plus making the pie crust. I had taken a pork roast out there and I made it for supper. It was so good.
Saturday morning we got up and made breakfast and we left right before noon. We had an extra car out there so we were both driving. When we got out there I got a toothache. My dentist called me a prescription in for Vicadin. I had been taking it for 5 days. We were still driving in Indiana on the way home. I fell asleep and ran into the back of a semi trailer that was moving in front front of me. The air bag went off. Thats what woke me up. I ccouldn't get out the drivers door so I crawled across the seat and got out and I started crying. My DH had stopped and the semi driver stopped. I kept saying I was sorry. It took a while for the wrecker to get there. We never had full coverage on that car. So we are just out of it. We will be sending them the title for it so it never cost us anything to have it towed/ We put everything in our other car and came home. I have a couple of bruises on my hand and one on my nose and my left knee is banged up. I feel like I came out lucky. I believe my guardian angel was watching over me. Maybe it also helped that I was praying for a safe trip before this happened. I never realized until that night how close a call that was. I had a hard time going to sleep after that. We got to Sioux CIty and got a hotel room for the night. The first room she gave us didn't even have the bed made. At 6 on Sunday Morning a couple was having a fight right next to us and in the hall. He locked her out and she kept pounding on the door. We decided then to just get up and leave. None of the places we stopped at to eat were very good.On Wednesday night we went to Subway and I had a Philly cheesesteak foot long. I had onions and 3 cheeses put on it after he ahd heated the beef. That was the best one I have tasted in a long time. All in all it was a good vacation though

You DROVE while taking Vicodin??

Vicodin contains hydrocodone - a narcotic! You're very lucky you didn't kill yourself or others.

I am happy you are OK after your accident. Consider yourself very lucky you were not ticketed for driving under the influence. It is illegal to drive when on a strong pain med like that. Most likely that is what caused you to fall asleep. I cannot take vicoden during the day because I can't stay awake just being in my house.

Luanne, did you, perchance, prune less this year, inspired by Gregg? I've been noticing that roses that were pruned very lightly or not at all are in full bloom. In the cemetery, and at home, I don't prune any of roses "hard," but those that got a moderate trim are still thinking about spring, whereas those that barely got shortened, if at all, are busily blooming. I've always thought that roses can either put their efforts into growing canes and leaves, or flowering, in the spring. We have examples of the same cultivar pruned two or three different ways in the cemetery, and there is no doubt that the more the roses were pruned, the less bloom they have right now. Common sense, right? But perhaps it had nothing to do with the pruning, and everything to do with the fact that they learned about the party and are just misbehaving. Things look gorgeous in your garden, and I hope the cemetery doesn't pale in comparison. Luanne and Sue, and other NoCal folks, hope to see you in Sacramento this weekend! Anita

Thanks for the compliments on the annual pot! I worked for a private gardener one summer many years ago and my job was to do the annual pots and take care of them all summer. They ordered truck loads of gorgeous and rare annuals for their customers. I WISH I had access to something more interesting, but I make due (sp?) with what the local nurseries sell.... geraniums, million bells, licorice, potato vines, petunias, etc... I have 2 of these pots in my back done the same way and every year all I do is change the color of the million bells and geranium. It always comes out nice, but I think I'm getting bored with the same design every year. Oops, sorry to go on... thanks!

Dear Friend. ♥ All jokes aside, The orchids and I faired well over the winter, and I will let them know you are thinking of them. You already know that your influence is scattered throughout my collection, and here you go again enabling me more !!! However, I’m not sure if you remember, last year when you baited me with White Elephant. It was right before I left to visit Hallson’s. As a result of your post, I ended up picking out one right then and there !!! It was haggard looking last year, what with a move across 5 states and then too much rain and shade. Here he is, in 2013. And again this year, looking much better. Pic taken today. Ooooo all that white sends my heart a flutter. :P But about this Lionheart business, I will reserve my comments to the actual post, so check back later. :) And Bless your heart for sharing your wind chimes. I ended up spending a half hour perusing that website, listening to all the different models. Your Earth Song is gorgeous !!! But I had to laugh when my ear settled on the $ 660.00, 8ft tall, Himalayan Echo . . . figures, I couldn’t swoon for one of the smaller more reasonably priced models. I would die to have one that big, though. Hang it somewhere high in a tree in the back yard and just let it resonate. I’m sure you could almost feel the vibrations if the wind picked up enough and really got it going. But I won’t be hearing it’s song for a long time at that price . . . good to set long term goals for yourself, right ? I was inspired by your link and ended up finding out more information on the one I just bought. I updated the original post if you want to go back check it out. This is actually my second one. The first, was a gift from my Mother almost 6 years ago after I graduated college. I had it hanging on my porch when I lived in Indiana, PA, but never made it out of the box once I moved to Philly. That is all changing this year as I have plans (or rather a grown adult with a big drill) to attach a huge hook to the roof of the front porch overhang. It is a 42 inch Arias. It does not have a theme or name like my Windsinger and definitely sounds more like cathedral bells. But still just as pleasing. well..at least your mi portion was good..

i can't believe the doc gave you such a strong medication knowing you were away from home...and at my pharmacy, you would have recieved a warning lable not to drive!

what is more fightening, my dh and ds were on the road last monday, driving to iowa state u for a convention...i'm sure thanking the Man above they missed you!

Your air bag saved you from more serious injury. This is one instance where an airbag was effective.

(An airbag really puts out a cloud of white stuff doesn't it? A couple of years ago, I witnessed an accident in the local park where the front airbags deployed.)

The only thing good about this is that you did not kill others by driving under the influence of narcotics....

YIKES you were lucky you weren't killed or killed someone else while on Vicadin! i do know that since you were DUI and your accident involved a semi, you will be hearing from DOT and atleast 1 or 2 insurance companies for the semi tractor & trailer. Unless you lucked out and hit an owner/operator w a bad record. Personally if I am ever involved in an accident I would make sure the police ALWAYS drug tested the person(s) at fault, statistically 25% of accidents are attributed to DUI. ~ liz

Sorry about your accident. Again, others are very hard on you about driving while on medication. Glad your trip was otherwise okay.

That is so frightening! Guess you won't be doing that again. I'm sorry you had that awful experience. The rest of your vacation sounds like it was wonderful.

My son and his friend came on an accident that had just happened. It was similar to yours. A fellow ran into the back of a semi, but in his case the hood of his small truck went under the back of the semi and he was decapitated. Others had stopped to help although there was nothing to be done, so son and friend kept going. Son's friend has nightmares after seeing that. Count your lucky stars that you were not hurt worse.

I appreciate all of your comments and I learned a very valuable lesson the hard way. The semi was not damaged at all so I am not worried about it. Jannie TY, We have all done some dumb things. I think this one is right on top of my list though.

No comments, just glad no one was hurt very bad and glad you had a good trip (most of it). You are right, we all do some dumb things in our life time, even driving.
