Maybe ho-hum for Gandle, but
Comments (11)We received a foot of snow today. I am wondering why drivers think that they can make left turns from the right lane and why they can run red lights in the snow. This afternoon, we had an accident (intentional) happen in part of our yard. We live in a cul-de-sac and between our house and the neighbors is a sidewalk that leads to a private park behind our house. Each year we both put Christmas lights on both sides of the walkway. An eighteen year old female new driver drove down our street very fast and decided that the walkway was a street. She ended up about 100 ft in the park. She didn't touch the neighbor's yard or lights, but wiped out all our lights and drove in our yard since the walkway was only about 3 ft wide. It is a good thing I wasn't home because I would have given her a piece of my mind. I did hear that another of our neighbors did yell at her a bit. The good thing is nobody got hurt and we can repair her damage easily. If she was my kid she would be cleaning it up. Tomorrow will be a better day. Happy holidays everyone!...See Moresnow bank ppaf w'hos gonna tell
Comments (35)First, let me say that as a professional writer, I am very much in favor of protecting your work. I believe we should all respect protected items of any kind. I get really angry when someone plagiarizes my work, but in reality, I don't have time to try to find every copied article or blog post, so I'm sure I catch many fewer than there are. That being said, and having worked for a grower with patented cactus, nobody is going to come into your yard and arrest you for having a Snowbank without the original tag or proof you bought it. They go after the sellers most of the time, not the gardeners. After 20 years, there are so many illicit cuttings of Snowbank out there, that they probably are only pursuing people who are reported. I'd report a nursery or online seller who was violating the law, but I would never report a gardener who had one in their yard. First, the only way to prove it really IS a Snowbank is with a genetic test, which is very expensive, and the patent owners are not likely to go out and test every suspect plant found in every yard, because it just isn't cost effective. People lie, so even if someone asks where you got your Snowbank, and they ARE the plant police, they aren't going to arrest you or charge you if you say you got it as a NOID brug from another gardener. You are under no legal obligation to rat out your trading partner or friend, and you could simply say that you didn't keep records of your trades, so you had no idea where you got it. Unless you have a backyard full of them, they aren't going to arrest you and confiscate your computer to find out where you got it originally. If you are selling them, they may do just that, though. Let's not all start freaking out. Just respect the law, and if someone sends you a NOID variegated brug, love it and take care of it and don't sell cuttings....See MoreHo! Ho! Ho! Comments (8)Thanks everyone. We actually had colder weather the first couple of weeks in December (-18 F.) than we are having now, although we do have 1 and 1/2 feet of snow outside on the lawn. Mike, the few bucks of extra electricity to get plumeria to bloom in the middle of the winter is worth it! Between this and the light bulbs outside in my palm boxes, I figure it may cost me an extra $15.00 per month. Mike, regarding mites, what a chore! I must watch for mites carefully, every day. The lights are bright enough I can easily spot any. If I see just one mite crawling around, I spray the whole plant. So far, by doing this everyday, it has kept the mite population under control. My worst problem is waiting to water a plant now and then until it is too dry, and then it's oldest leaves will turn yellow and fall off, but the plants are doing very well. My seedlings that I started in July and August are now a foot tall, have robust trunks and large healthy leaves. I wouldn't be surprised if they bloom before one year old. Good luck with your plumeria, everyone!...See More- 11 months ago
