Sherwin Williams BM Chantilly Lace equivalent

Hi! We are renovating our basement. I wanted to paint the walls Benjamin Moore Chantilly Lace but unfortunately our contractor uses Sherwin Williams. Looking for recommendations for a similar color. Should we do a color match? SW White Snow or Extra White or another color? Thank you!!

Be aware.....I don't think BM's formula uses Black (S1) in that color. I think S2 (Gray) is used. I know for a fact the White-Dove uses Gray & Yellow-Oxide). How do I know???

I tint a LOT of both!

Color matching whites is really tough since most of the color is from the base and the bases are quite different between brands.

SW High Reflective White and White Snow would be two that I would test if you like Chantilly Lace.

Can I ask why you had selected Chantilly Lace? Had you tested it in your room?

White does not make a basement look light and bright. Only light can make it look light and bright and without enough light white often looks gray or drab.

To help those in future searches.....we chose Sherwin Williams High Reflective White as our interior trim color. We are very happy with the choice, pops against the wall paint colors we chose (Crisp Linen, Natural Linen and Neutral Ground). It comes across as a "neutral white" to me. But it did cost us a few hundred more dollars than our original paint quote. Apparently this color only comes in some of SW paint grades so we had to upgrade to a different grade to get this color.

In the example mentioned above, BM Deep Royal isn’t a bad shout. it is slightly lower in Value (lightness) than both Naval + North Sea. They all belong to the Purple-Blue Hue Family. But Twilight is much more colourful (higher in Chroma) and from a completely different Hue Family. So by comparison to Naval it would likely feel that bit more blueish-green.

I don't have a photo of wall/trim to show you, just my opinion. 1. Always test it in your own house. Even if someone had a photo to show you, their lighting, their flooring, their furnishings will impact how the paint colors look. Color is relative and sometimes completely changed by light. 2. In theory, I think they would work together because there is enough contrast, but I don't think it would be my favorite pairing. Pure White may look gray (or possibly a little dirty) next to Chantilly Lace because Pure White is more "gray" or desaturated. In the comparison below, I think Pure White looks like a very pale gray. Maybe that's the look you want. 3. The "easiest" thing to do with a white is to paint everything the same color, but use different sheens. Say matte or eggshell on the walls and satin or semi-gloss on the trim. 4. If you haven't tested it in your home, get a Samplize sheet or a sample pot and paint the pure white on a large board and compare it to the Chantilly Lace on a piece of moulding. Then move it around the room/house to see how it works with flooring, countertops, anything that isn't going to move, and of course how your furnishings work with it.

We have friends that have Chantilly Lace in their basement. Love the look. They do have lots of natural light and adequate lighting.

You will need to test some colors in your home with your lighting and next to your flooring. There is just no other way to know what will work in your home.

People often don't recognize that flooring really influences what colors will work or how they will look.

Tell us more about your basement, the lighting you will have, the flooring you will have, how you want it to feel, what other colors you are planning to have (furnishings, art), how you are planning to use the space.
