Design Dilemma dining room

Dining Room Design Question

I would appreciate your thoughts. Is it ok to center the buffet on the back wall of the dining room or should it be centered on the wall that is remaining to the left of the doorway even though it will be off center from the table this way? Thank you for your help!

Center to the dining table - and the room- don’t worry that the wall is shorter because of the doorway- that whole wall is the guide - looks best centers to table

Beautiful room! I love the combination seating you have but if you decide to not use the bench for some reason then I would suggest 2 more black Windsor side chairs and just use the parsons at the head and foot of the table. I have white upholstered chairs at the head and foot of my RH salvaged pine trestle table and wood side chairs with slips only on the seats. I love this look - the linen slips are a nice, soft contrast to the rustic table. I was also considering black Windsor side chairs for my table but wasn't sure and then found my chairs on sale at Shabby Chic. I fell in love with them because they're so pretty but DH is not a fan due to comfort. He would have preferred the Windsor chairs. Looking at your photos, I can see they would have looked great! Can you share where you found your sign and clock hanging on the walls? I need to find some interesting wall decor!

Hello Hillari Lube , You have a lot going on in a tiny space! AND you say the word, 'wonky,' like I do - you from New York by any chance? Anyway - the big piece that neither of us seem thrilled with - would that fit rotated to the wall immediately to it's right? It would make it less of a focal point and with a nice desk, small shelf and a painting above where it is now - you have a much more functional space & hopefully something that takes the eye away from the big piece... From there it seems console table or small bookcase the L side of the couch would set up something that defines a small circular table for a dining area. Hope that helps. Cute place, i see the challenge, but I am really against a sectional in this space let alone for guest to have to sit next to each other it creates a weird dynamic. I hope you are not planning to put the tv over the fireplace that would also be a neck breaker. I see the couch on the side the two red chairs. the tv on the wall with the lockers and 2 chairs to the dining room side.

There are a few tricks to use to bring make more light (appear) in the room. Lighting is crucial, so don't treat it as an afterthought. Before you do or get anything, have a plan. Measure twice, buy once. In the living room, put the ceiling light on a dimmer. A ceiling light in the living room does not make for an intimate living room experience. I prefer no ceiling light there, and instead - a tale lamp or wall sconce at chest height. I love a well lit room, so I go a bit nuts with the lighting! Other things you can do: put a mirror on the wall - only if there is a nice reflection. Put glass or mirror table tops - only if that goes along with your decor. Other places you can put mirrors are on lamp bases. Don't overdo it, but you are on the right track with bright colors. I have a dark living room also, and I have a lot of color in my oversized wall art (go big or go home!) I can't tell from the pictures, but some of them look like the walls are a cool color and some look warm. Be very careful if you plan on repainting the walls. It makes a lot of difference. Gray is a cool color and has been overdone in the past five years.

Hi. I would put the china cupboard where you have placed the buffet and put the buffet where the china cupboard was. My ex-bf's mother has her furniture arranged like that with the buffet on the side wall and it looks just fine. You might want to take those lamps down tho as they seem rather big for the size of the buffet. When serving they could topple over at that size. You could replace them with smaller lamps.

Since you’re a whiz at doing this on a computer, give Cara’s layout a try. I think it might make the shorter wall too crowded, but you’re not actually moving these big pieces around.

I still vote for the first photo, with the table going in that direction.

Do you have a photo of the art work that will be hung over the buffet? Or is that a mirror over the buffet in your mock-up?

I like photo 1 in your latest post with the china cabinet on the back wall and the table position. But a really striking large piece of art over the buffet on the back wall could sway my vote (but need to see the art).

This is for a new build, and the furniture was selected from the software we’re currently using. It looks close to ours though. The photo shows a mirror, but I definitely plan to add a nice piece of art. Thank you for the suggestion. I appreciate it!
