I've moved - what's my zone?
Comments (8)I wasn't criticizing anyone - merely wondering why so many posters seem not to be inclined to perform extremely simple search functions before asking basic questions. Or for that matter, even review the FAQ's of the various forums when available. An Internet search with your favorite search engine will turn up basic information - like hardiness zones - without having to go through the multiple steps and delay of posting here and waiting for a response. If I am able to do a simple Internet search and easily turn up the data, anyone can. Information that is researched independently tends to be more meaningful than that which is handed to one on a platter and often leads to further study and greater knowledge. Besides, I did take the time to research myself and share the information, so I'm not sure what your complaint is. Here is a link that might be useful: European hardiness zones...See Moredid i just kill my sage? should i wait to move it now?
Comments (3)What zone you are in? Are the plants dormant now? I'm not a sage expert but in general... When you move a plant, digging it up causes loss of root mass. This means the plant has a more difficult time taking up water. Frequently plants wilt under this condition. Relatively speaking, a small number of roots cannot take up enough water to support a large number of leaves. When this happens, it helps the plant by pruning it back after the move, equalizing root mass and leaf mass. I've done this before and the plant stopped wilting and recovered. The next year it was full and looked great. So based on that, it may actually be easier on the plants to move them now before there is a large number of leaves. You shouldn't have a problem with wilting. Just my opinion....See MoreI've just moved to some bizarr rabbit nirvana zone. A lil help?
Comments (2)what is the 6th largest city in MI???? and please.. if you are going to trap ... do not move them and make them someone else's problems .... i understand they taste just like chicken .... some feral cats will helps.. as will a dog or two with a radio collar .... fence a nursery to put your plants in .. until you can get control of the rabbits .... if that is possible ... i moved from livonia to adrian .. and quickly learned about country living ..... rabbits.. moles.. voles.. field mice.. deer .... chipmunks ... oh for the love of god ... lol .... as i worked through each predator.. i was surprised how few there actually where .... one mole nearly destroyed a half acre of lawn ... go figure... three chippies nearly destroyed a couple hundred hosta ... etc .... bottom line.. you have to become the master of your domain .... be ruthless .... you will be adding more to the biosphere than you remove.. so don't beat yourself up over it .... and remember.. you can hire people to do it, if you cant .... good luck ken PS: Disney warped two generations of youth with that propaganda about all those cute little creatures ... they are vermin .. plain and simple .... i think you understand that now .......See MoreWe just moved here from Cincinnati, what flowers grow in both zones?
Comments (13)Even if you could get those species to survive here, they have a major drawback in that in Texas they tend to be spring attractions only. At least in central Texas (letting us know where in Texas you're located would be a big help) spring is a short season, whereas summer seems to last forever. After their blooming season is over, they'll require generous irrigation if you want them to survive til the next spring. Ask yourself if five to six months copious watering of plants that look like they want to die is worth the two weeks of flowers. I heartily endorse wantonamara's reading list. Wasowski and Ogden offer invaluable advice re the species that will perform well for you. Of course, when you're curious about a particular species, you can always pick the brains of experienced gardeners on this forum. The only addition to wantonamara's and annie's list I've seen growing in both regions is cardinal flower. In Texas it practically needs a water/bog garden to flourish....See Morecarolb_w_fl_coastal_9b
