Have you thought about painting them the same color as the stair rails?

The color of the stairs or the color of the ceiling.

Black - Farrow and Ball Railings, SW Tricorn Black. A black that is not too shiny that has a tinge of grey in it.

I would either play that up and do something crazy - metallic paint, bright yellow, etc. Otherwise choose one of the 4 elements already there - match the brick, the ceiling, the banister of the stairs or get more of the wood flooring and wrap it.

Wall color or baseboard color.

In the color hierarchy of elements, columns are the same as trim/doors/crown. Color hierarchy is about color placement and using color to organize the built environment in order to make it easiest for your brain to understand and navigate.

Not a rule. A guideline. YMMV

You all are amazing! I was hesitant to do black on the columns since there are 2 of them across from each other in a 200 sq ft space so I thought that would make the space seem small/ceiling shorter. Appreciate all the insights!

How about a brown that you pick up from the brick to paint the column and stair wall: I don't have it pictured exactly right, but you get the idea. You could also do a greenish bronze color to have it stand out against the brick.

Roller shades would give it more of an urban vibe if you're looking to change your current window treatments.

Make sure to pick the right shade for your lighting. I have used Wrought Iron inside and out.

Not listed above is Behr-Beluga. it's a very nice, rich black. have used it on my wall at home.

Also, new window treatments please. Those white ones do nothing for your space.

if you like that inset style, try something like this (Piroette or Silouette) in a darker shade

or some dark bamboo shades

I was trying to find some brick lofts w/black to show you how it looks. Look at the windows, the decor and on a few of them, the art and the industrial style book shelves. don't forget some sort of wood accents. either w/furntiure, beams, shelving. black looks so good w/the wood

Next to the staircase you could try some black and white art w/white frames,

or black frames

And, love the idea of painting the ceiling black and doing some type of wood, like these beams. (notice the dark blinds on this one too, and the industrial book shelf)

Yes, a black or near-black with harmonize and also make them fade into the walls. Fun space!

. I think the black is kind of heavy but I really need to see the whole space . Okay i see a wall next to the stairs so why not just use that color for the posts . I am not really understanding this issue. I like the concrete color that palimpsest posted. Still has the industrial vibe but not too heavy. I'd use that color on the stair wall.
