The kitchen looks very clean & functional now. Replacing flooring doesn’t sound like a ”small update” & I’m not sure from the pic of new flooring material that it complements the cabinets. Why not follow the often given usual good advice - live in new home for at least 6 months & save up to make all the updates at one time. Gives you time to decide style, need & also choose finshes that complement & look great together.

Your cabinets and counters look to be clean and in good repair. Keep them for now.

Consider wall paint - whoever grey-ified everything didn't do this kitchen any favors.

Think about a long term plan - does it include the cabinets? if so - not sure that's the right floor. Would the layout stay? Appliances?

Wait it out 6 months and create a vision. Things done in haste without a longer term vision will be wasteful in the long run.

Again - if you are desperate to do something - paint a soft white color, hang a roman shade over the window that incorporates a blue and off white stripe, MAYBE change the hardware on the cabinets to something a little nautical - and ignore the floor.

Congratulations on your new house! The kitchen is fine - I would not spend anything on it now, just squirrel away the money and do a whole remodel exactly the way you want. You will spend thousands trying to make it just a little bit better.

Eggshell paint is the greatest thing for backsplashes. I have it in my kitchen and it is very scrubable.

Doing something about that grotesque gray wall paint, which would be simple and not that much money (agree with the suggestion of a soft white), will make that kitchen much better. That will give time to come up with a more comprehensive plan, which shouldn't be done in haste. I wouldn't change the floor yet, until you know more about what else you will be doing -- not a "small update".

I like your cabinets. They have charm! I agree with everyone else that with warm colored cabinets, gray is not a great choice for wall color.

This is my own opinion, but I do not care for your proposed flooring color (at least on my screen). It has gray tones, and doesn't complement the cabinets you do have currently.

If I were moving in with this kitchen with a small budget, I would change the refrigerator for a counter-depth model, I'd throw a colorful rug on the floor, and I'd shop at Home Depot for prefab white laminate counters to replace the blue. I would want undercabinet lighting if there's none there (inexpensive, Home Depot), and I'd want can lights as well.

I really love that you have that window, and that the floor appears lighter, neutral, and easy to clean. So: Paint, lighting, frig, rug.

I really like your cabinets too. The flooring isn't ideal. The flooring and cabinet woods are different styles and won't complement each other. You might have to look a little harder for it but LVT is still around.

I'd paint the walls and be done. It's a nice looking kitchen and the list of things you will need/want to buy is going to be looooooong.

Thank you for the suggestions! I should have mentioned I will eventually have the cabinets/trim painted. I do think starting with paint will make a big difference! I also like the Prefab Counter idea.
