Are you sure you're maxed out on kitchen storage space? Maybe post photos and a measured diagram. I'm not a fan of storing things in unrelated places. You'll eat up space and have things in a less convenient place.

We need a floor plan with dimensions well labelled. The size of the openings is important.

If this is a combined living room/dining room, please also include photos of the other end.

Yes two pantry cabinets it a sideboard between for serving would look veyr nice. Maybe not this finish, but you get the idea.

For starters, your upper cabinets should go to the ceiling. You could store less often used items up high. Then, I wonder if there's room for a shallow, full height cabinet across from the peninsula.

I would have preferred a galley kitchen with the laundry entrance elsewhere. I sometimes wonder if these architects have anything in their kitchens.

While I like your inspiration photo and what Beverly showed, I wonder if it would be worth it to do full cabinets on the smaller wall next to the kitchen, purely for convenience sake. (Forgive my awkward drawing, but you get the idea :)

I agree, I don‘t understand who designs some of these spaces! it might be a tight fit having a cabinet across from the peninsula and you also need to get around it to access the laundry but I’ll take some measurements and keep it in mind. Thank you!

I’m doing something similar to your inspiration photo in my dining room except that the two end sections are wider and the doors taller. One end section will have pull-out pantry drawers behind the doors and the other end section will be storage for the vacuum and broom and cleaning supplies. No glass in the uppers and all drawers in the middle section. I plan to use the middle section drawers for table linens, silverware and china. The dining room is the only eating area, so while the dishes and silverware will be far from the dishwasher, they will be right next to the table where they will be used.

When you have a small kitchen, you sometimes have to store items where they aren’t as convenient.

IF you're going to do it I would probably do #1. The other two options would leave what would essentially be empty useless space.

Go through your kitchen and make sure you're using the storage space wisely and then make a list of what would be stored in the dining room. Hopefully it wouldn't be toilet paper and cleaning supplies. :). And from there do your design. You may be able to do some glass and certainly keep the use of drawers in mind for either the two ends or the middle. They can be so useful.

And things like pretty mugs or white casserole dishes can go behind glass even though they are kitchen items.

The least expensive diy and easiest thing to build is a closet. I'd build two, to the ceiling, and slide something you buy in between.

So you buy the middle and build the sides and you really don't need a depth of more than 18- 20 inches for the closets . A really clean and simple door.....you buy that too.

In the middle you'll have 6 feet of serve/store flanked by a total both sides of another six ish feet right to to ceiling of closed/shelved pantry whatever you want in there

I would just do cabinets along the whole wale but not up the wall then they wilook like a nice buffet and still have a ton of storage We actually did 2 Ikea horizontal wall hung cabinets SXS in our DR in our last house . I think if you add tall cabinets it will then look like kitchen stuff and not like it is meant to be there for the DR.I also suggest not the same style as your kitchen cabinets. When my clients complain a bout kitchen storage the first thing I suggest to them is a good ourge of stuff not needed to be stored in the kitchen and starts usually with getting all the plastic containers out of the cabinets keep 6 all the same stacked the rest go in the basement in a box anywhere but the kitchen. If you must do the galss door cabinets then hope you have lots of stuff you do not mind displaying.. You are limited to depth because of the side with the window and 15 " deep wall cabinets hold a lot.

I do feel we’ve maximised the space in the kitchen (although doing the cupboards wall to ceiling is on the list when we tackle the kitchen project in future). It’s jam packed & we’re also storing kitchen stuff in the laundry and under the stairs!

I mocked this up with ikea, what do you all think about not going full wall to wall? Would you centre it? I’m keen on going wall to wall but my partner thinks we need a gap (even a small one) as there’s power points on both walls so he wants to access at least one easily…We also need somewhere for the cat bowl, water fountain, etc. Thanks!

I think full wall would look much nicer. You could easily drill a hole in the back of one of the cupboards and put a power strip inside for easy access from the front. If you get the kind with outlet plugs and charging ports, you could charge your devices there, hidden away, too. Could the kitty dish and water go in the laundry?

I suggest the storage to be on the 3.78m wall from the entrance to the corner for easy access from the kitchen. Consider entry to corner full height doors with interior adjustable shelves. The depth can be 12" (30.5cm) which is enough depth for most pantry items and serving items. By using that side wall you can still have a buffet, art, sconces on the wall looking into the dining room from the kitchen. The hardware can be anything, consider pivot hinges to eliminate heavy framing and regular hinges to keep that wall as sleek and without being obtrusive.

Integrate lighted niches

Integrate a bar cabinet

Instead of ceiling to floor pantry, depending on your requirements, wrap low cabinets from entry door to dining room and continue to corner and back wall. 48" high (122cm) (instead of counter height) will be more efficient. All cabinetry must have adjustable shelves.

I actually tried that on paper Denise, at 18 inch depth. Forced the table to rotate and wasn't enough space for a decent table/rectangle as she wants

My advice is same... as above prior, even if it means a shallow flanking dept, or an angle at the corner near windows. Ikea, or Loews in the middle with a solid surface, or wood top,

The real issue is the kitchen and dining areas should reverse to a u shape kitchen and lose the slider for window.

To the op? Show the entire living floor and take more picture. Post the entire floor plan as well.

I like the full wall by the kitchen, as brik suggested. But the inspiration photo in your original post looks pretty great, so that's a nice option -- doubles as a buffet for serving too!

Even your inspo could have been better executed. Flank the serving to the ceiling, closed and shelved even at shallow depth. Serve in the middle as deep drawers.

I completely understand resources, which is why I suggested the closet flank, It's nothing more than studs, framing and drywall.

The middle? You can buy ( straight sides ) or you can have a local kitchen venue do drawer bases.

Once on the wall? It is there: ) Thus worth saving for even if you wait a bit.

Look into craftsman in your area as well. Not everything is D I Y.

You really should post the entire living floor.

You do not need 18" (45cm) deep cabinets for a pantry as 12" (30.5cm) deep works. As you can see by the plan below, if you feel you need deeper panty cabinets, it will work.

I have indicated a dining table 60" x 30" (150cm x 75cm) with a banquette and two low side cabinets. This will give you space for the stools at the kitchen counter.
